1940 Plymouth rear brakes and painting the frame

E-162 After a break in the garage due to illness, we're back to working on the 1940 Plymouth. Stripping the back half, cleaning up the metal and painting, then it's putting it all back together to get it road worth. The decision has been made to rebuild the S-10 transmission so the owner can put in a bucket seat. Should the gas tank be painted, if so, with what?

Nice looking frame glad you top coated the POR , I’d paint the tank personal preference.

looking good.as per the pictures i sent you,the steel tank in my 39 Chrysler was painted with por-15 and then painted black.would've been fine left alone but my opinion,it looks better painted,

Nice job. But you still could have used the Mustang T5 if you got a short rear housing and swapped it and used a bell housing that wasn't slanted. I am mounting a Mustang T5 to my Flathead V8 by swapping the rear housing over to a S10 one and using an adapter to mate to the Hogs head on the Flathead. Anyway, keep up the quality wrenching.

Unless the customer. wants the tank painted I would just leave it and use some rubber strips from inner tube to isolate straps from the tank ! Hope you are on the mend ,this weather does not help !!

Back in the day around here, central WI. Everyone painted there tanks orange, and or the same as the body color. And then put a chrome cover on the rear axle pumpkin. 😅

My personal preference would be to leave it unpainted , It's already protected and as far as insulating the outside of it , have you considered heavy roofing paper (tar paper) ?

"Back in the day" we just cut strips of an old inner tube for the tank isolation strip. Poor folks have poor ways !! LOL

Yes that threw me as well but that's what Ford did on the 8.8 rear end in the Crown Vic's with disc brakes.
