You've inspired me to finally make a bra. I've literally never had a bra that fit. I've tried so many band and cup variations and wasted so much money. I cannot wait to try this out.

Well done! As modern bras, with elastics and sinthetic materials make me itch and feel unconfortable, some years ago I used one of my nonna's bra (a relic) and then replicated it. It was the best decision ever

You know I have a two week-old... DON'T TEMPT ME, KATHERINE. 😅 I never even finished my maternity stays (which will now become regular stays). This video was super relaxing to watch, and the final results were beautiful!!!

When my kids were little and I was "perpetually nursing " I put myself to sleep designing bras that would fit my odd size and how I was going to revolutionize the breastfeeding world with my designs. I made the total of one bra, I loved it - until the cotton muslin shrunk. Now today, I an TOTALLY inspired to get back into it. My nieces have tiny circumferences compared to cup size, nursing their babies in discomfort and no support. Loved this video and all your tips! Thank you!!

This is so lucky! I bought this pattern a couple weeks back and was intimidated to make it. I have the same problems as you do with modern bras, we have the same cup size when I'm not expecting (which I currently am) but even now my proportions are the same just bigger obviously. I am going to try now with your advice on how to make it fit. Thanks!

I unsubscribed some time ago as I wasn't interested in the hair videos but was searching for a vintage bra and found you again. If you are doing more sewing stuff I will stick around. I love your sewing 😊

I have a very thin gore, almost non-existent, between and also my sternum dips in and I have NEVER been able to find a bra that comes close to fitting properly. thanks for the inspiration to do it myself!

I've been wanting to make a nursing friendly, supportive slip dress to wear under my dailywear dresses. Basically a nursing tank but longer. They don't exist to buy as far as I can tell and I've been very intimidated by the project, but it's a garment I would get a lot of use out of. This project gives me some ideas!

Very interesting video! I bootlegged a regency sloth corset and i absolutely love it! So much better than modern undergarments!

I like the adjustable part of the bra to be in the front. My bras are big too.

I’m getting ready to make a Kestos. It’s a very interesting shape and it’s different than a bra it’s doesn’t close in the back it has buttons that are wrapped to the front sides. I have a vintage long line bra pattern that I haven’t gotten the right material for yet but Kestos uses very little elastic and is designed for woven fabric. I also have a large bust being a 32F meant nothing fits me. Yeah I’m looking forward to sewing my own. I’ve been living in sports bras and corsets. 😂

As a young girl I had access to lots of vintage undergarments. Like my mother and grandmother. Puberty it and (seemingly) over night it was uncomfortable to run or jog ever again. As I was now a size D as We got older we became DD. So, the bras I had access to were to say the least interesting. Lots of (pointy boobs) created with ribbing, rubber, and yes boning. Honestly I miss those garments. They really held things in place.

This is fascinating! I was particularly interested to hear that you thought the linen was so structured and supportive as that seems counter-intuitive given that one of the properties of linen fibres is that they stretch under tension. I'm going to raid my linen scraps to mock one of these. I'm all the more motivated in view of your comment that their support is analogous to that of modern sports bras - I'm guessing you mean the 'upholstered'-style high impact ones rather than the cute bamboo yoga ones ...

So glad you liked it! I would love to hear how it goes for you! Yes, with the sports bra comment I was thinking specifically of a jogging sports bra I had years ago. ☺️

I have never thought of making/sewing my own! duh 57 y.o.. maybe I can finally get one that fits. I too struggle with finding a bra have forever. I have the opposite problem sort of. Wide - need like a 40" but an A cup which doesn't exist. Closest bra that worked well for me there was a "nearly a B" but they quit making them :( I would love to make my own. I would be interested in this 1940's bra, you mentioned one on your blog. I will check it out. I do sew, but never a bra. I am unsure of all the adjustments that would need to be done to "personalize it" Do you go over this anywhere? Thank you! I am loving your channel.

I absolutely need to do this. I detest modern bras and rarely wear one, which I can get away with because I am retired and live alone. I rarely wear stretch knits - most of my clothes are woven cotton or linen. And my body shape makes modern bras so unpleasant. I too have a large bust and small band, my boobs are spaced quite widely (they do not touch at the cleavage at all), and one is bigger and lower than three other, and my ribcage, which flares at the bottom, is quite asymmetrical. All these things add up to making a modern underwire bra only tolerable for an hour or so. I studied drafting but have never drafted a bra and the complexity of getting all those curves to match my quirky body is quite overwhelming. I would love instructions on drafting a bra, which would actually be easier for me than printing one. Thanks for your videos!

I definitely want to try making this bra. How do I get the pattern? I don’t want the long line one but this one. My body is opposite large band smaller cup size. I hate all my expensive bras. I really want to make one. Please tell me how to get the pattern 🙏🏼. Thank you

Would a bra like this linen one be as supportive as a bra with underwire for ladies over DDD? It would be nice to get that kind of lift without underwire.

I'm interested in the sizing on this bra! You say you're a larger cup size but the dress dummy doesn't give me an idea of the difference of band size vs. bust. I am currently a 40H and nothing fits well and feels nice, so I'm interested in making my own. Adjusting the patterns is my biggest concern. Thank you!

I'm a mother of 8 soon to be 9 children so I've spent a fair bit of time nursing but I was wondering about the aspect of these bras not being stretchy in the cups. I converted a few non-stretch lace bras to nursing for the summer and found that I had to stop nursing sooner because of plugged ducts several times a week! This hadn't happened with traditional stretchy nursing bras so I blamed it on the non-stretch. Could have been from pumping after those 2 babies but it wasn't a problem until a couple of months in. Any thoughts or suggestions? I would love to make my own bras in the hopes of something far more comfortable with me also being a small band size and extra large cup size. I've even considered going without a bra but that is only an option at home in the winter with multiple layers. It did help a lot with the plugged ducts though.

I love this, I just finished my maternity stats at 22 weeks pregnant and now need to start my maternity/Nursing Wardrobe. So I have a question, I’m planning to make two regency dresses, one drawstring front and one apron front to nurse in and some tops using that style of closure. Hoe would you say this style of bra looks under something that low cut? I’ve never gotten a great look of the empire waist with a modern bra, but super want to make stays for nursing. Would those two style mesh well you think? Thanks, your work is so inspiring!!
