WW II was the era when the engineers did their best to push the technology forward. This great beautiful bike is a witness to that. Why the rear break works with this heel way? Possible reason because soldier's boot toe usually is wet and full in mud. They tried to keep the break pedal as dry as they could. Brilliant and simple mechanical solutions, on this bike, such as the transmission axis, are still aplly on new BMW bikes (r18 modern model). Great video man, well done. Hello from Athens, Greece.

The symbol on the engine is the Nazi Waffenampt - approval stamp to say it meets Wehrmacht quality before delivery to the army. Its a 750cc side valve, magneto ignition, 18hp. Often had a w.krad b1 sidecar. For those engine geeks!
@jarrod74655 жыл бұрын
That's crazy that a 750cc engine from 1941 could only put out 18 HP A modern bike with half of the displacement will put out more than that. Bike engineering has come a long way

Nazi Waffenampt was mostly stapm on confiscated civil motorcycle. The most important was stamp with octane number OZ 74 (for more strong bike BMW R66 OZ 80) . Direct produced for WH or SS has mostly no such stamp. Direct for army has always number OZ stamped.

I don't like your music but your bike is the bombshell, I am a WW2 enthusiast and when you started up the bike it sounded just like the Wehrmacht motorcycles the German army used in documentaries I watch about the second world war. I taught it was so kool hearing and seeing that BMW R12 era (1941) Bike perform after all these years. In those documentaries the BMW bikes went through mountains of mud, ice, snow, rain, bombings, fires, gunshots and battles even rivers you name it and they kept on going. What a great piece of history you own.

I was shocked. I have been looking for a 1938 Indian for myself. When I was in Vietnam 8 months ago I saw some 1930s Russian bikes blew my mind. I own a 1963 Lincoln Continental I am restoring. My car is what they call a super overly engineered vehicle. I love it. It's back there in the USA. Congrats on your bike. War is a terrible thing. I hate what happened in the past. All we can do is learn from it. I really appreciate the engineering of the old cars and bikes. Take care and stay safe.

Amongst other things all batteries that went into the tanks and U boats were produced at a huge cost of life in the factories that belonged to the Quandt family. They are today the richest family in Germany and refused to acknowledge their dark history until the screening of a documentary entitled ‘The silence of the Quandts’ : their vehicles today should be bearing nazi symbols and the stamp of approval from the Third Reich with all the blood on their hands
