I picked up an old Mercedes which had sat for so long(since 1976 ) the oil had become clear like that. All the dirt had settled to the bottom but it soon turned back to black as soon i tried to start it.... Sounds like your 'helper ' has plenty of good advice too...

Yep, exactly what i was going to type. The blackness separates out and sinks, and the clean appearance of the dipstick is misleading.

The engine may have nondetergent oil, the contaminants will settle to the bottom of the oil leaving it looking clean , the contaminants tend to stay in the pan with oil changes. Changing oil with a hot engine would help but even then stuff would be left.

Way to go, that flat head 6 was a staple of Chrysler Corporation for many decades. In one form or another it powered vehicles up until 1959 (was the choice of Yellow Cab Company for all of the 1559 Plymouth Savoy cabs).. During the war years 1941-45 the engine powered compressors, welders, lighting, generators and many other industrial issues. It was used by the military in dozens of ways. It was easy to service and would just keep on running. Only weak part was the fact that valve seats would come loose but a quick fix with a center punch would put it back in action. Glad to see your example running so quickly and with clean oil. That oil filter was usually an after market addition. Aloha from Maui

The Fuel Trims sound a little off- maybe get a new O2 sensor for it, and check if it has any DTC codes in the ECU. You'll probably have to go to the Dealer, and get that Floor Module re flashed, if it won't sync with your Uniden phone mode. Seriously- RockAuto has a water pump, radiator hoses, and a thermostat for it.

OBD1 isn't too bad, it can be diagnosed with a paper clip, and there are very few sensors to go wrong. You can put a fuel injected tunnel ram on an older block no problem, and many aftermarket systems tune themselves. OBD2 is when stuff really gets screwy, as the PCM controls all aspects of driving, right down to the shift points in the transmission!
