I like anti-seize compound on bolts, nuts and the input shaft. The 12 point bolt on the RAG joint is part of a cast pinch attachment and once torqued will not come loose. If you want to use anything simple because it is steering, use the “Green” 242 Loctite compound. It is a low strength designed to be installed after assembly because it’s low viscosity allows it to “Wick” into the threads thru capillary action. Anti-Seize, (Regular Aluminum Based & High-Temp Graphite) Dielectric Grease and Red, Blue & Green Loctite and Red Jelly “Loctite” 518 are some of my main go to assembly chemicals. I buy the big $40+ bottles of Loctite as it is so important plus the 9 bottles of anti-seize with brush under lid. If dry, add a splash of mineral spirits and stir it in. Great video information Dave!!!

What kit did you use for the column to the steering box and also the electrical connection. Swapping out my steering column in a 65 C10 and the column has a 1 inch DD rod. After watching the video should be fairly easy.

I wanted to keep my three tree. But I couldn't find one anywhere. I had to keep my original. But I put in a power steering box and used a mid 80s jeep shaft. Fits perfectly on the box and I attached it to my knuckle shaft. Grinded it to fit in a jeep shaft. Put in a bolt through the side of the hole where the knuckle was. Epoxy it for more safety.. It works great 👍.

I have a newbie question. I have a 66 c10, and plan on keeping the inline 6. My goal is to swap out the 3 on the tree manual transmission and go with an automatic. I’m not a fan of cutting the floorboard to put the shifter, can I put one of these automatic steering columns?

@@mikepicard5437 So... any of our Universal columns (ones that say they fit 1947-87) will need an adapter and an aftermarket wheel. However, the columns linked below are "retrofit" and are meant to bolt right in without modifications, which means you can use the stock wheel: Manual shift: www.holley.com/products/suspension_and_chassis/steering_components/steering_wheel_and_column/parts/CSC66SM Automatic shift: www.holley.com/products/suspension_and_chassis/steering_components/steering_wheel_and_column/parts/CSC66SA

55-59 Chevys have a solid shaft that has no connectors to the box. How do you install a tilt column on one?

You cut it and add a coupler.

Hello Dave Welch, Crazy Question Here: Is it possible to convert a regular Chevy Column (68 Impala column already installed) over to a Tilt wheel column by replacing just the "heads" without changing the actual column? I have a tilt wheel column in hand, (same make & vintage) and wonder can it be "pieced" onto the existing column. I wanted to avoid the whole process of removal and install the tilt mechanism. POSSIBLE?? Thanks, Great Videos!! Joe

Where do you measure to find out if you need a 30 or 33-in column?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV2 жыл бұрын
From the expected end of the shaft in the engine bay, to the planned position of the steering wheel mount at the top. So you have some wiggle room, we typically suggest going shorter if the project allows it.

A universal column should fit anything. You just need to buy one in the proper length.

Will the 67-72 columns that your company sells fit the 60-66 trucks?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV2 жыл бұрын
They can be made to fit for sure, but similar modifications to this install would have to be done. We actually like to use the 67-72 column in these trucks because they are about 2" shorter at the top which leaves more room for us older guys with "bigger bellies".

Hello quick question. On this particular column I am going to be installing on a 62 as well. I have not ordered yet but how are you getting it to bolt underneath the dash does it have two slots were a direct bolt how did you get it to mount? I appreciate if you can answer. Thank you very much
@graysongarate3297 Жыл бұрын
I have the same question. For the more universal columns I think we might have to drill holes for the two mounting bolts that are originally there.

@@graysongarate3297 I’ve thought about that but what are the bolts gonna thread into. Plus is moving in there no idea how deep.
@graysongarate3297 Жыл бұрын
@@NMZIA I think we might have to tap the holes we drill. And that’s why I haven’t done it yet. The originally bolts are pretty short but I’m scared it might hit the wiring harness inside or even the shaft.
