Have a question on this. Just received a 1947 No Mint in change and the "S" in CENTS looks like a 5. Has a flat top and no distict curve on the too of the S. Looks like right angles. The S is also off set higher than the other letters. Would love an opinion. Can send photos.

I found a 1947 nickel with a split "o" on the reverse side in the "OF" WORD.

Got 3 of them. Only 1 is 4.98 grams. Also one had full steps on the back but the front is worn down bad.

Full steps after 1990 have no extra value....dies were modified and full steps 1990 and later are the norm. On older nickels, the value is higher for full steps. Partial steps does not increase the value. Also Felix Schlag designed the coin as the result of a contest by the Mint. His original design was modified several times. He was the designer, not the Engraver. His initials were intentionally left off his original designs by Schlag himself. In 1966, the Mint honored him by adding the FS under the bust on the obverse. They continued using his obverse design until 2005 or so.

Probably tarnished...they didn't have alloy issues producing black beauties until the 1950s
