I bought a 1948 Model 78 Oldsmobile from the original owner , this was in 2007 . The car had been setting in a garage for a year . Great shape , new interior , straight 8 and Hydramatic . Recent paint job and looked decent . Rebuilt the carb , brakes , tune up and got it running again with out any problems . I bought new either Kumho or Hancook tires and buffed the narrow whitewall to show the wide whitewall . Heck of a lot cheaper than what Coker gets for their wide whitewalls . I drove the old Oldsmobile for a few months and decided I had better sell it before I got the urge to do an engine upgrade and spend a lot of money on it . I sold the car to guy up in Pennsylvania that has old cars he rents to movie producers , the Olds looked great parked along side his collection . Really neat old car that I was told about by his family members that own a restaurant I go to regularly . I'll follow your progress , keeping posting cool videos .

- As a former young passenger in a '48 Silver Streak I have to recommend returning this beast to some semblance of it's former glory or giving it to someone who will. Style has gone out of style. It's a beaut.

My Dad ran a gas station in Oklahoma in the mid sixties. He bought a 48 Olds off of a little old lady. It was black on the outside and he cleaned and polished it, putting it for sale. I was in remarkable shape and it sold in just a few days. At the time any car older than 10 years was just ancient and nearly worthless.

The little 'cartoon thing' is most likely a 'BAZOOKA JOE and his GANG' bubblegum comic. They were included in individually wrapped pieces of gum starting in 1953. Does he have a black eyepatch and blue cap? If so, that's him! You gotta love the grill, instrument panel, steering wheel, and contour body lines on this Olds. Keep in mind, those wheel bolts on the drivers side, are darn near guaranteed to be 'reversed threads'... I other words, to loosen them, you actually need to turn the wrench clockwise ... As if you were 'tightening' them... The passengers side is 'normal'... You turn your wrench to the left, to loosen ... 🔧

I would say that car is pretty rare, it had a very pretty high end interior for the day. It would be a very nice car restored to it's complete beauty. My Mother bought a new Corvair in Oklahoma City in late 64 or 65. At the time she was a life insurance seller and she thought it would be great to keep her personal records in the front storage area. First night she had it a terrible storm rolled thru and filled the front storage area and all her records full of water. Totally ruined every piece of paper there. The dealer did give her back her money but not much could be done for the papers. Going far into the future I was driving in Houston my home town and was following a corvair, the rear center engine mount was broken and the engine was bouncing up and down like one of those bobble head dolls you would see in the rear glass of some older cars. After service I was working my entire life as a mechanic and did work on a few of those engines. It was almost impossible to stop the oil leaks. It reminds me of a quote from an old Marine talking about poor equipment and he said the Marine Corps wouldn't own it unless it leaked oil. If my memory serves me they were talking specifically about that GM diesel selling in the trucks at the time.

Tell her to NOT allow the tow truck to tow it with the rear wheels on the ground. That will destroy the transmission, which I'm sure is an automatic. You CAN NOT tow a vehicle with automatic with the drive wheels on the ground. It destroys automatic transmissions.
@trr5291Ай бұрын
@jamesbosworth4191 Yes it was built by Studebaker. It was sitting in a barn in Missouri for 30 years. She had it towed to Illinois. It cost a fortune, but she really wanted it. The body is nice. It stayed out of the sun and climate all those years. I have a few videos of it on my channel.

I own a 1947 Olds Series 76 with hydramatic in that same body style (basically the same car with some minor trim differences). Any chance you could post up the tire size of yours...Previous owner on mine wanted to hotrod it and stuck bigger tires on the back ans smaller tires on the front. Those engines behind it are not for that car...Until the Rocket V8 in 49 all 40's Olds cars were flatheads. The engines behind it look like probably Chevy Stovebolt 6's...That and the Buick Fireball straight 8 were the only OHV engines GM sold until the similar 48 Caddy and 49 Olds V8s. Kinda would like to find a beefier 40's-50's GM 8 Cylinder that would bolt up to my hydramatic...The Flathead 6 will get it up to interstate speed if held to the floor...But I'd like to get something that can hold that speed easier.
