I'd love to get an actual pov driving impression from you Lou. This may not have been the best time for that here because it was a celebration and whatnot. Maybe better to go revisit them on another occasion so you can have them take it out and you ride in the back. I'm very curious about the noise level inside the vehicle with the windows closed whether it permeates inside the vehicle. It's a really cool vehicle in all though!

What a great car Lou! You got this right after the Mecum auction last month, I was watching it on TV. This is truly a piece of American history. I see it has the accessory radio installed - Preston sold the radios to prospective dealers to finance production before the first car was built so there are actually more radios out there than actual Model 48s produced!

Tucker was so far ahead of his time that the big 3 couldn't handle it. It's a shame what happened to the Tucker. Didn't the headlight in center turn with the steering? Thanks for one of the rarest post-war cars out there Lou. Keep up the great work 👍👍
@loucostabile9 ай бұрын
Hi Pat, Happy to share this rare treat with you :-) Yes, the center light turns when you steer the car. You're welcome, Lou
@onemoremisfit9 ай бұрын
The center headlight not only moves with the steering, but also the linkage is designed so it does not move until the steering moves enough to make a turn. That way the light stays still for small movements of the steering wheel that normally happen while cruising straight and only moves when you actually make a turn.
@lauralowry98959 ай бұрын
And that third light did not turn on until the steering angle was greater than 10 degrees. So it was off for normal driving.

This car is a prime example of innovation and styling in its prime. Proof that Preston Tucker was a visionary. Sadly his vision was crushed before it could take off. And unfortunately the car scene hasn’t been the same since. I wish car companies today had a pair to challenge the norm with a different design like Preston did.

As others have already pointed out top number is body no. 1023 but at the bottom is serial no. 1021 which is how the Tuckers are usually Identified. Serial no. 1034 has body no. 1037 and vice versa. I could be mistaken but the biggest numerical difference between body and serial number I researched was serial no. 1023 had body no. 1008.

Cool! The engine definitely sounds like a helicopter engine. I'm sure they would have to do something about the loud sound if the Tucker went into full production.
@onemoremisfit9 ай бұрын
Those engines were also originally air cooled in the aircraft application, because on a helicopter the engine can be mounted out in the wind. The engine had to be adapted for water cooling to run enclosed in the engine bay of a car without overheating, so Tucker had them modified with water cooled cylinders. The water jackets on the cylinders absorb a little bit of mechanical noise, so they would have been even louder with the air cooled cylinders.
