Thank you for sharing this beautifully kept Ford. I also enjoyed that shade of gray paint as it works perfectly with that body.

I had a 1950 Ford that looked exactly like this one. Bought it off my aunt in 1964. It was a great car.

The single spinner. The sound of this V8 with the straight pipes like no other. Ford had the best V8 sound of this era and previous.

That is gorgeous, it's so nice to see one that's not modified in any way, no skirts or straight pipes. I love it!

If you wanted a tough old car that lasted for ages, a '49 Ford Shoe Box was just the ticket. Those flathead engines were dependable. Give it Motorcraft parts and you got a winner!

Pretty example. My grandmother had a '49. I always thought the exposed trunk hinges were a nice touch. I like the "slab sides" as opposed to the "power bulge" rear quarters found in most other makes of the era.

Back in the early 60s I had a model car of a 49 Ford. That's the closest I've come to owning one. 🙄😁

Still puzzled as to why backup lights were not made essential equipment on cars by that point in time. It was more than feasible. I should have an automotive engineer, born in say 1918 or close.

Amazing to see no arm rest on the door? 49 did have the gas cap on the outside of the fender. Last year to have it outside?

50/51 came with a fuel door.
@haroldolafcecil39342 жыл бұрын
My dad told it it had arm rests. We experienced massive delays getting the upholstery done, and I think they skipped the arm rests. Easy to source and install though. And yes, it has the filler sticking out on the left side. Looking for a buyer if you know anyone who’s interested!
@muffs55mercury612 жыл бұрын
Yes. The '50s had the fuel door.

The gas cap was there in the open. Customers complained about gas stains in the fender. By 51, the cap was hidden beneath a door, a good move.

In 1949, apparently Ford didn’t give this model a name. “Shoebox” is a nickname that vintage car enthusiasts have given to this model. We’re looking for a buyer . . .

@@haroldolafcecil3934 ok thanks for the answer, I was curious about where that name came from. I thought it probably came from Ford enthusiasts. It's a nice and beautiful car, one of many lovely models American made 👍
