Good tips on filler. Must be 50 chevy truck hood time was adjusting gaps and hood pin panel broke in half! Some bad weld Repair in the past.

Thanks John. Lucky you found it now then later. Can you find a replacement? Mark

Your not concerned with the cold sheetmetal and the heating of the filler creating condensation between the two??
@FoothillPaintandFabrication11 ай бұрын
Great question. No I am not, in fact body filler is porous and light weight body filler is even more porous allowing any moisture to escape if there were any. Luckily I also live in a pretty dry climate with low humidity. On a high end paint job applying epoxy primer to any exposed bare steel and then applying body filler over it would be best but in this case we were painting over several old paint jobs so there was no benefit going that far. @@rickmegandrapeau6950 I hear you on that. I am fortunate here where I can work through the winter on most jobs. What is your project?

@FoothillPaintandFabrication 1987 toyota pickup 2wd 5 speed no pwr steering we've had it for 2 years no rust fairly straight. Got it "road ready" in the first week just so we could enjoy the little old truck sooo much fun. Started body work summer of 2022 on front clip and ended up getting that, I'll say "completed" early fall 2022 and it didn't come out terrible for a first time but now 1.5 years later my inexperience and really low budget is starting to show. It's going to be my sons first truck summer 2025. This summer we moved across country so we had new house chores that ate up summer 2023. I'm just itching to pull the bed and get everything down to bare metal. I know just enough now to be dangerous just lack the experience but I've got a plan.

@@rickmegandrapeau6950 Sounds like a great first car. If the paint is sound I would just sand it really well and use the old paint as the base for primer. Of course if it failed then getting it off there is best. Even I know just enough to get myself in trouble from time to time, that never goes away.
