And what, exactly is freedom? If you define freedom as "the lack of barriers between your wishes and your fulfilling of those wishes", then why restrict the freedom of teenagers to obtain joy by vandalizing cars in a parking lot? That's definitely a restriction on freedom right there. But if you object to legalizing vandalism, that implies some things ARE more important than freedom after all. So what *ought* we Americans deem as "freedom"?
@v33punk3 жыл бұрын
Because kids vandalizing vehicles in a parking lot, especially without repercussions, is violating the property rights of others. Dummy.
@filrabat19653 жыл бұрын
@@v33punk Uh yes, and that's precisely my point - some things are more important than freedom (property rights, voting rights, right to protest government actions, and most of all human dignity). BTW, I hold protection of human dignity to be paramount.
@v33punk3 жыл бұрын
@@filrabat1965 property rights are freedoms in and of themselves, smart guy. You are free and have the right to own property. This was largely unheard of until the beginning of the American experiment. Before, people lived in feudal systems where Lords or the church controlled all the land. The example you're trying to put forward as freedom is actually anarchy.

Not Democracy!!!. We are s constitutional republic where all politics is local. Democracies are weak and lopsided one party states. In 1970 many citizens in Civil Defense were trained to crush any one party democracy that tried to create a one party state like Massachusetts.

The “republic vs democracy” distinction is a very US one. Many of the Soviet satellite states styled themselves as “people's democracies” and (often officially) as “people's republics”. On another note, socialist Yugoslavia (not aligned with the USSR) had a Civil Defence network of its own, and volunteers received similar anti-totalitarian training, among other things.

Seeing what's going on - it wasn't propaganda. It was foreshadowing a very dire and truthful warning.
@harmreductionman44742 жыл бұрын
...foreshadowing what? What on earth are you talking about? The communists lost the Cold War bro, you can stop being paranoid about Reds Under The Bed. Just because college kids like Bernie doesn't mean we live in Soviet Russia. Also: "propaganda" doesn't mean "false and distorted information," it just means information-true, false, or somewhere in between-shared primarily for the purpose of achieving a political goal. The Soviets made tons of propaganda, the Americans made just as much propaganda (including this gem from Ronny "The Gipster" McReagan), and so did the French, Nazi Germans, West Germans, East Germans, English, Mexicans, South Africans on all sides of Apartheid, Italians, Israelis, Palestinians, both the Nationalist and Communist forces during/after the Chinese Civil War, the fucking Andorrans, your mother, my mother (who is prettier than yours), and everyone else on the planet. You're paranoid if you think that "what's going on" is somehow sagely forecasted by this video of Reagan asking people to send him money for a big bell to scare the commies. Propaganda is a normal and healthy part of local, national, and global politics; if that upsets your feeble mind then I point you to the ancient wisdom of Confucius: _"The wise facts of the scholar care not for the foolish feelings of the soycuck __#GetRekt__"_
