Back when trucks were built for work with real beds unlike the sissified urban statements of today.
@johnellis23472 жыл бұрын
All began offering 8' boxes and dodge centered theirs. Not listed were 10' beds by some for sprinkler pipe. You could hold the dodge or any cooled auto with gas all day as their is no metal or clutch connection only oil to oil and dodge cooled theirs. Up hunting in the mud the high revving ford v8's and overhead chevies pickups would not lug down and spin out so we would push them up the hill with our old 47 Dodge pickup.

They don't have heated/cooled seats, self driving, 22in rims, 12 speakers, or a 15in infotainment screen..... How will we ever be able to get any work done???? 😱😱😱😱🤔🤔🤔

A 1951 Dodge 1/2 Ton pickup with a 6.5 ft bed was.. $1293.00 Panel was $1493.00 The Dodge ram hood ornament was changed to an option this year.

Grandpa was a Dodge guy. He had the '53 version pickup. Dad was a Chevy guy. He had the '53 Chevy pickup. Dad went through 2 Chevys before Grandpa gave up the Dodge. The moral? They're both gone now and I drive a Ford.

Take the time to watch a “SHORT” video by you tuber “@jackhfletcher” Another Stupid Ford Design” it’s a short video hi-lights Fords new wet belt design oil pump belt which is on the “5.0” V-8’s and the eco-boost engines from 2018 ? ? ?

Interesting that the shorter wheelbase in the Dodge is an advantage for 1951. In later years however, the longer wheelbase that the Dodge's had is better.

Just like in their car videos. Sometimes chrysler's body-on-frame is an advantage, other times its unibody makes it better than the competition.

A parking brake on the driveshaft, a torque converter between the clutch and engine. I have to say I'm very impressed by a vehicle like this from back in '51. But this also begs another question: How much of a nightmare is it to get parts for these things nowadays? Anyone have experience in restorations?
@RobertPlattBell8 жыл бұрын
+WKZworks parking brake on the driveshaft was very common in vehicles from the 30's and 40's. My 1948 Jeep had one. Well, had is the word, as the previous owner took it off, and yea, parts were a bit hard to find, which is why I never replaced it.

I don't think it's hard at all, trucks aren't as valued as other cars
@jamesslick47907 жыл бұрын
Can't be that much of a "nightmare" keeping these running. I knew a guy who had a '52 1/2 ton Dodge Pickup that he used (as a pickup,not a "show" vehicle) as late as 2000 (he might still...I moved away, so who knows?) This vintage of 6 Cylinder MoPars seem to still have plenty of support, and yet are still rather affordable!

Now this is great video I appreciate these old dealer videos, but notice that at the beginning it says it only compares the dodge to the ford with the 6 cylinder why? Because dodge only offered 6 cylinders ford had the v8 option lol
@Jobratedman4 жыл бұрын
The Ford V-8 was not much more power or torque than the Mopar six. Not a real difference.
@Nobody-nz6vy4 жыл бұрын
Because then ford would look better than dodge, it’s all about the marketing
@randymagnum1434 жыл бұрын
The 6 was more powerful than the v8, unless you got the big v8 in the big trucks. Then they had massive overheating problems due to the exhaust traveling through the block from the valves all the way across the block. Thats what the ardun hemi heads were for, to make the v8 reliable under heavy load.
@randymagnum1434 жыл бұрын
@@Nobody-nz6vy the ford 6 had 115, the v8 only 100.
@redtra236 Жыл бұрын
The ford V8 was super outdated though basically an engine from the 1930s. Some 6 cylinders had more power.

As usual, poor Mopar format with some unnecessary smart-a** trying to play devil's advocate. Compare this with the Jam Handy presentations for GM/Chevy; you'll see the difference between a winner's confidence and a loser's sour grapes. I'd buy one of these Dodges new today--minus the jerk.
@DamnStraightM35A25 жыл бұрын
First time I've ever heard a manufacturer recommend holding a vehicle on a hill using the torque converter and not the brakes. I'm sure it wouldn't last long in practice though.

I'll take the big block 337 ford flathead V8.
@randymagnum1434 жыл бұрын
Then you'll need a 2-1/2 ton or bigger truck, and plan on a set of aftermarket heads if you plan on working it. It'll overheat under heavy use. Of course, you could get a 413 cubic inch 6 from Dodge, with dual carburetors and exhaust. It'll provide rated power under *all* conditions, and won't overheat.
