1951 GMC 100 - Hinge issue and Discouragement

So discouraged right now. Not moving as quick as it was and I break stuff when I am making progress. Press forward!!

Chase the fine threads on both the captured nuts and the old bolts with tap and die, you be surprised how much better your life will be, your going to love the putting that rear glass in with the seal and securing strip that goes into the seal, get the best seals you can. Your going to have many more issues along the journey, just adapt and overcome like you did on the cross threaded bolt. 💯🆒

Had the same problem with my door hinges, I just cut and bent sheet metal and wire welded it back together, you’ll get it, just takes time!

You can purchase new hinge covers from the filling station part # GR664UL upper left, GR664UR upper right, GR664LL lower left and GR664LR lower right. Remove the old ones and tack weld new ones from the backside. KEEP GOING! I’ve been messing with mine for 10 yrs

What I did with those door hinges- when I was doing the patch panels, I took 3/8 rod couplers and welded them in place so I could use 3/8 bolts to hold the door hinges. The rod coupler is like an over long nut

I really wish they would have broke much sooner when the panels were off. I love that idea, thank you.

1. Don't get discouraged. 2. That edge on the hinge is just a cosmetic sheet metal cover that's spot welded on. It's not a structural part of the hinge. You want to make sure the hinges don't have any play (wobble) in the pins. 3. There are a bunch of videos on KZbin showing how to adjust the doors so the seams are even all around. 4. Buy new bolts, trying to re-use the old ones didn't work well for me.
