Glad to see you owe a Buick 1955. I owe one too. These cars are great. Just floats over the road. Fun to drive. Mine is from Ohio. I live in Panama. R. P. where the Panama canal is located. Have in you tube. Look up 1955 Buick in Panama. I rebuilt it all in Panama. Took like a year. Just sent bumpers to be chromed powder coated. And bought 3". White walls to give a better look. The only thing I changed generator. Put a push button fm radio. My seats are original fabric.. Had to changed but same as original all the suspension and brakes. Gas tank new. Caberator kit. Love the old style when driving. No power nothing. 😀

I think the transmission is more likely to be Buick's DynaFlow, a continuously variable transmission, than a two speed, which Chevy's Powerglide was. I was amazed, as a youngster, to ride in a similar Buick, and comment to the owner how smoothly the transmission shifted. "That's because it doesn't shift.", he informed me.

You are correct. The DynaFlow was a completely different transmission, (lasting until 1963) than the Chevrolet PowerGlide.

Really nice ‘55. I own one myself. 2 door sedan post car. I’m not knocking but that’s a 2 door hardtop. The name convertible can’t be in there...the car is NOT a convertible. I need that brake kit. Very cool - good job.

Johnny thanks for the compliment! I'm the owner, and it's an interesting take on the name I know. If you look at the dealer brochure from back then (see below) they called the no-post "Hard Top" using the quotations, referring that it appears as a "convertible". They even mention it in the description, as a "low profile convertible" hence why I call it that. Granted the name wasn't that long.. but still a factual statement. Oh and if you look close, mine is a series 43 - A 4 Door. I drive the piss out of mine and hopefully you do the same, there built for it! Thanks again!

Agree, and I don't know what the factory was smoking thinking that a hardtop looks like a convertible. They either had some good stuff or they needed glasses.

@@rockettcustoms6266 All marketing! Convertible was a sexy name back then. I knew they called the 2 door hardtops that but not the 4 door hardtop. Learned something. Those old car brochures are special.

Johnny K has a 2 door sedan. This gentleman has a four door hardtop. No post = hardtop. Buick referred to their hardtops as Riviera's. Designer's aimed for the look of a convertible car with it's top up.

My moms car from my earliest memory was 55 buick special 2 door hard top red and white with red and black interior.Had no seat belts i sat on the edge of the front seat at 5 playing with the knobs on the radio.When she slammed on the brakes one time i flew head first into the steel dash and broke my neck.Later i would stand on the transmission hump in the back seat looking out the front window waiting to fly head first out the windshield.
