Where does one begin with a car like this. The colors on the car - the two tone exterior and the red wheel wells being replicated on the inside with the red accent on aqua base vinyls. This was from an era of design that simply cannot be replicated now. You were so right to point out the details (or as I call the hidden jewels of design). That engine was not only great sounding but looking at its layout you could see real engineering talent and machining and casting of metal parts. Today we get plastic everything. Arrrrrrrgh. You've outdone yourself with this one, Lou. One thing will always be constant with you - you will outdo yourself with another; the greatness of your channel!

I'm trying to come up with the proper words to describe this Century, but I'm speechless. 'Stunning' doesn't even scratch the surface. It's so far above any other prototype of the era because it looks like something the factory could have (SHOULD HAVE!) offered instead of being the typical over-the-top styling exercise. Just like the Gaylord you featured awhile back, this car has me drooling. Wow, you've outdone yourself with this one Lou.

I had the wonderful opportunity for my '56 Olds Starfire (which Lou did a segment on about 5-6 years ago) to be parked next to Steve's '56 Buick at the 2024 Arizona Concours d'Elegance car show. This unique Buick has to be seen to be believed. When I met Steve in the event parking garage the night before the show and he showed me all the one-off elements of this car, I told my wife that everyone else in our class was competing for second place because I was 100% certain the Buick would win the class (which it did). My favorite parts are the unique intake manifold with 4 side draft carbs, and the rocker panel exhaust, but it is all spectacular. On top of that, Steve was a real gentleman who loves to talk cars. I was happy for my Starfire to win a class award at the show and I didn't feel bad at all about losing to such an incredible Buick. Lou, it was great seeing you at the show and thanks for sharing this unicorn of a car with everyone!

What an absolutely amazing car! I think Buick made a huge mistake in not putting this car into production exactly "as is" and marketing it as a very limited production "above top of the line" ultra premium priced car. Besides actually selling a fair number of them, it would've sparked Buick sales across the entire Buick model line by generating a huge amount of showroom traffic! I wonder if Cadillac had anything to do do with this not happening as Cadillac didn't have anything to compete with this and the top brass at GM was afraid the hugely profitable Cadillac Division would lose showroom traffic and thus sales to this and other lesser Buick models?

Amazing vehicle. This 1956 edition was meant to be exceptional in ways that exemplify the exuberance and swagger of Post WWII America. This specific custom order is of museum quality because of its impeccable condition and additionally because of the sophistication found in the classic convertible body lines, the two tone color distribution… a true testament of luxury, taste and technology which typified US confidence in its future. Powerhouse 1950s prestige and many a teenager’s dream ride. “Dad, can I borrow the Buick tonight ?” “Yeah, I suppose son … but stay outa trouble.” Congrats on this recent purchase. What would be a blast is to park this car next to a stock 56 Buick century and find all the custom items.

....that would be fun :-)

What about those high A-pillar mounted side-view mirrors .... on both sides ...? Always seemed that such mirrors were hold-overs from the 1930's .... when designers were just beginning to experiment with them. By the '50's, fender-mounted mirrors seemed more rakish. Yet this highly modified & engineered Buick has the somewhat stodgy high-mounted mirrors. Odd & curious.
