I also have one of these. Not as cosmetically pretty as this one, but a great, smooth runner, just the same. Starts well, quiet, hauls at full throttle, and throttles down to troll slowly really nicely, too.

ballhawk387 do they run with 30 weight oil?
@ballhawk3877 жыл бұрын
Any good TC-W3 oil, which is the modern equivalent. I usually use Johnson/Evinrude XD-30 at a 24:1 mix. AVOID automotive 30 weight, or any oils intended for auto use, as automotive oils now have unsuitable additives.

Hi. Great video. I think I have this motor but no tank. My cabin neighbor gave it to me. He wanted it out of his boathouse. I was going to put in my garage but my wife lost interest in that idea…He said it used to run great but doesn’t anymore. I’d like to sell it to a nice home. Any idea how much it’s worth??

the Commanders were rated for 30 or 35hp by 1958. pretty rugged boats. mine has three or four folded aluminum transom knees. i've put up to a 28 SPL on mine and it runs straight & fast. nice fastwin!!!

That's a beauty, too bad the audio almost makes it seem like the engine was missing/jumping out of gear. I realize this is only the audio, there is no problem with the engine.

Hey Ben hope all is well. well i just replaced lower unit gear seal and water pump kit, carb kit and i'm waiting for a tune up kit for my 1957 Evinrude Fastwin 18 HP it's Tune Up Kit 2 BRP Coils and 2 Spark Plugs J6C, and i'm also replacing the spark plug wires, parts should be arriving tomorrow, i have a question after installing the new ignition parts aside from gaping the points do i need to worry about the timing? would it affect the timing? or is just a straight up remove and replace old parts . Your input is appreciated. Thanks!!

Good morning Ben, great videos bud, i have a question , i picked up this exact motor from an elderly man yesterday it had been stored in his garage for the last 20 years or so it's in pristine condition, i hooked up the gas lines and it actually started up, but i noticed that the tiller throttle handle only turns a 1/4 of the the way upon turning it , it seems to be hitting a stopper plate by the flywheel that prevents it from turning further, how can this be adjusted or corrected? your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Well you lost me at stopper plate. Can't think of any stopper plate?

Do you know what the color was called on this motor? I have a the same motor, year and all. I inherited it from my grandfather that he inherited from my great grandfather. I got a long shaft spacer and long shaft driveshaft to convert the motor to long shaft (my boat is a 20") when I bought the tune up parts from my local OMC dealer. The spacer is a different color than the outboard because it was from a different year. I would like to get paint to pain the spacer.

Wow, BEAUTIFUL motor, runs great looks great, you just can't beat these 18-20hp examples, real work-horses! I found the exact same thing at my local scrap yard, factory electric start and all, sinking into the mud - sad sad. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpOXhqKla9-kaM0 I rescued it, took it home, cleaned up the points and it fired right up - you just can't kill these! Abysmal shape compared to yours, but it runs pretty nice considering, just needs a tune-up. I tried it on my boat later and it pushes my boat near as fast as my 30HP Javelin - amazing! Great video and great old motor, keep 'em running, they just don't make them like they used to - cheers! Bellarmine
