LOL Thanks Michelle. I usually do an opening montage for our family home movies. My cousin was born in 57' so I showed this at the beginning to put everyone in the feel of the times.

I had the coolest kindergarten teacher, Miss Stewart, in '57...she was always coming up with cool experiences for us kids...the wildest was the entire class taking a ride on the back of a firetruck through Mobile, Alabama, siren blaring! Imagine that being allowed today! We also went on the local TV afternoon kid's show 'Captain Mel's Cartoons' and our families got to watch us on TV...I still have an 8 x 10 b&w photo of our class sitting in the 'peanut galley'! Miss Stewart also gave us swimming lessons that summer at a nearby lake, and we'd all pile into her '57 Plymouth station wagon with huge fins and Elvis on the radio! I'll never forget watching American Bandstand, live from Philadelphia, the afternoon Dick Clark introduced a guy dressed up like the Flying Purple People Eater...he danced to that #1 hit at the time! I wish KZbin had that clip! The ice cream man would be well stocked with Dreamsicle popsicles every day, and my neighborhood crew would play until it was time for supper, watching 'Superman'! Although I didn't see either movie until decades later, I feel 'A Face In the Crowd' and 'April Love' to be my very favorite films of that era...both captured the spirit and societal norms of that time so perfectly...two true time capsule films!

1957 was my first full year in Germany serving in the Army, Traveled all over Germany and by 1958, watched Elvis come to join us in Germany and had visited 5 other countries and got to go to the worlds fair in Belgium all before I was 21 years old, not bad for a poor Chicago boy that never was on a vacation before. I used all of my Vacation time but the army got me there. By the way, Elvis came to Germany on the same ship that brought me there. The USS General Randahl but at different times. came home on the USNS Patch. What a time I had. PS, a pack of lucky Strike cigarettes on the ship going to Germany cost around 17 cents

Were you aware of that at the time eogg25 ?
@eogg256 жыл бұрын
If your asking was I aware that I enjoyed myself in Germany, Yes, When I told my friends I was being shipped to Europe, they said I would not do anything, I also new as an 18 year old in the states, I was treated like an 18 year old, The outfit I was in had just come back from Germany and they told me it would be a fun time in Germany, I could not wait. I was not restricted to 3.2 bars, I could do what any 21 year or older person could do in the states. 3 things I did not know would happen to me in Germany, I did not know I would be paid 50 bucks a month more just for going to Germany and I was given my PFC stripes two weeks after I got there and made 4th class before most guys in the states would get it, No KP duty and was put in Headquarters and trained as a Radio Operator, no more guard duty., went to Brussels Belgium on the way to England and the Worlds faire was going on. I Loved it, I got to do most everything I ever wanted to do. The reason I got sent to Germany was even better but that's another story.

Hi Terry ! A million thanks to you for tuning in. I recently transferred some old 8mm home movies for a cousin of mine of when he was growing up. ( He was born in 1957 as you can see ). I wanted to create a musical montage of what was going on when he came into the world at the time so I put together this opening before showing the films It really takes you back into that era like a time machine and it went over very nicely. Thanks again :)

News was news back then. No sound bites or political parties trying capitalize an agenda.

TheRedBaron Lives! The 70's were horrible! Bell bottom pants, long hair on men and boys, drugs, evil music, big city tv shows, immoral behavior ran wild, etc.
@theredbaronlives98896 жыл бұрын
N B Bell bottom were ugly but music evil? compared to the utter crap of today the music was astounding: pink Floyd,Rush,Gordon Lightfoot,Boston,CCR,rolling stones,thePolice,etc...and movies omg! Godfather,Jaws,close encounters,theConversation,network,starwars,alien,DirtyHarry,theoutlawjoseywales,theShootist,10,theParallaxView,exorcist,atpm,and that's just a few. +Secretariat won TC in 73. 70's were great compared to now! The best thing about today is smartphones w/Internet and energy drinks.Society has gotten worse though your correct.

I recall some of these shows but I think in Canada, since we're so behind, made it here mostly in the 60s. frig. this is such a backward, lame Country!
