FIrst thing I recognize in these clips is Roger Mudd's voice. I must have spent too much time watching the news in the 60s. I do miss the days of good TV news with Walter Cronkite, Roger Mudd, Harry Reasoner, and Hugh Downs who spent much time in radio work and it shows in their delivery. Now it's all flashy folks and quick cuts so I just wait and read things online as I did with my lamented daily newspaper (now a tabloid format which I loathe). I also remember when we got our first COLOR tv in 1968! I'm also singing along with all the ads--thanks for the memories.

The video brings up some of the dark events that happened in 1966, but as a 12-year-old living the life of Riley on a small island in the Pacific, things were looking much differently. It was long before I started having to worry about the draft and going to college and finding a job. Now, I'm a 70-year-old man who has done all that and has somehow managed to survive though about two layoffs, but what kept me going were those magical days I spent in 1966, obsessing about Batman, Peanuts, comic books, and slot cars.

1966 was the year I got the best birthday gift ever. When I got home from school my mother gave me for my 7th birthday a Batman utility belt by Ideal. Today it is considered the Holy Grail of Batman collectibles. In the package it'll cost you 3,500 - 4,500 bucks!

Unfortunately it's long gone. I'd imagine it cost under $10 back then. But at $10 your looking at 350 - 450 times what it went for. Today collectors usually purchase it piece by piece. It came with a Bat boomerang, Bat-cuffs, a Bat-light etc. All of these gadgets tended to get lost so trying to put one together is tough. About 10 years ago I saw the bat-cuffs with a rusty chain, looking the worse for wear sell for just over $200! And it's my pleasure tuning in. Just keep 'em coming!

It's About Time! That theme song has been stuck in my head for decades, and I couldn't figure out which program it was from: not Lost in Space, not Valley of the Dinosaurs, so WHAT???! Whew! I can relax now. In 1966, I was 6 and 7, watching most of these programs with my little brother. I don't think I went to the movies, but I remember the ad for Virginia Wolf, which frightened me. I'm not sure why. I loved the TV ad for Little Friskies, partly for the cats and mostly b/c the speaker stuck his arm outside of the TV. I often visited my married older sister, who played the radio and danced. Music and dancing were something we always shared. EDIT: Most episodes of _It's About Time_ are available here on YT.

The theme song for "The Green Hornet" TV show sounded almost like Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight Of The Bumblebee," which was the theme song for the radio version of "The Green Hornet." That program was created by Francis "Fran" Striker and produced by George W. Trendle, both of whom also respectively created and produced two other classic radio adventure series, "The Lone Ranger," and "Sergeant Preston Of The Yukon." Like "The Green Hornet," those shows also used classical pieces as their opening themes: the music for "The Lone Ranger" was Rossini's "The 'William Tell' Overture," while the "Sergeant Preston" song was Georges Bizet's "Donna Diana Overture." Re: the ad for United States Savings Bonds with Adam West in his "Batman" costume. Notice how he says that buying bonds was supporting the cause of "freedom" that our troops were fighting for in Vietnam. BOY, WERE WE NAIVE BACK THEN!

I loved Dactari, and got a lot of kidding, since the chimp and I had the same name :) Lost in Space was my favorite. Dad and I would watch together. If I remember right, it came on Wednesday around six, because Dad would pick me up from track, and we would get Burger King on the way home. That was mom's bridge night, so she was busy elsewhere, and we were happy campers.

I turned 8 that summer and lived about a mile from the townhouse where the Speck murders occured. Turned our neighborhood upside down and opened a little boys eyes to a world which wasn't always safe and pleasant.

I was in 8th grade, track, first year as a cheer leader, am still in touch with some of those school friends I had. Loved tanning in the summer. ,i was also secretary in Girls Atheletic Association. I was bride's maid of honor in my sister's wedding, and got to wear her wedding dress in my wedding in 1980. ,i did go to see that Russians Are Coming movie. One memorable incident. In Social Studies, our class learned all about holding strikes, and decided we would hold one, as we felt we were gettint too much homework from our home room teacher. We arranged a meeting with him after lunch, and presented our case. He apologized and we all quickly came to terms. Then! The principal found out about whate we had done and blew a gasket, said we would be "hellers" by the time we were seniors. So we decided we would be the best class the school ever had, and through the rest of our school years, stuck together.
