1957 Texas 4A High School Football Championship: Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson HS vs Highland Park HS

Thanks for posting this game a few notes i have on this game... this was the first game of a two game Jefferson County state championship "double header" the other was the night cap which saw Nederland defeat Sweetwater 20-7 at Bulldog Stadium in Nederland This was the last year of the "golden era" of high school football in the Jefferson County as Port Arthur went to state in 57 Nederland went to state in both 1956 snd 1957 and Port Neches in 53,54, and 55. Nederland returned to state in 1961 losing to Dumas 6-0 after that loss it would be another 14 years before another team from Jefferson County went to state. Ronnie Stanley later played for Baylor as a QB Ronald Doty passed away in 1997 his son is a CPA in Nederland

How about that late 70s 80s run? PN-G winning in 75 and losing a close one to Plano in front of 49,000 in 77. PAJ runners up in 80.West Brook winning it all in 82 and French co-champs in 84.

@@jamesfields2916 I would be glad to post videos of those games if someone can provide the films and/or help scan them to video to be edited. Games may have been filmed but where are they now? Even if found, it's significant cost to convert to video and significant time to turn it into a KZbin video. BTW, I was at the 77 game when Plano beat PNG. I was a senior in the Plano band.

He's not on the roster but Jimmy Johnson would have been a freshman at PA Jefferson that season along with Janis Joplin.

I checked the 1958 Yearbook and found that TJHS was only Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors in 1957-58. Jimmy must have been in 9th grade probably at Woodrow Wilson Junior High. I have a partial game film of the 1959 TJ vs Houston John Reagan High School in the State quarterfinals in Houston. I spotted Jimmy (#56), a junior, in that film. I'll eventually get it posted here. Still looking for a roster or game program to tell who is who in the game. Jimmy was in the class of 1961, Janis was class of 1960.
