Texas A & M, under Bear Bryant, were #1 and undefeated - however, this week Bryant confirmed he was leaving the Aggies to return to alma mater Alabama for the 1958 season. While Notre Dame was beating Oklahoma, Rice was upsetting A & M 7-6. In a bizarre week of games, Ohio State upset Iowa 17-13 to clinch the Big Ten title and a Rose Bowl berth. But who was number #1 after this week? Michigan State, who had been #4, defeated Minnesota and moved up to #1 in the polls, but had already lost the Big Ten title to Ohio State, who was now #3. Strange is right.

Interesting, I wasn't aware that the Irish seemed to have control of this game as seen with the two missed scoring opportunities. The lack of showboating after the touchdown and game-sealing interception is so refreshing.
