When a owner of a car is very energetic to have his vehicle filmed many flags (for a very good reason go up_ as it did here. I find when that owner has that extra excitement there is something more than special about his car - like this Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible. I was able to get a glimpse of the underneath of the car and it look better than new. Thanks for your participation - USClassicMuscleCars

In high school which was 1965 to 1968 I had a friend who had a passion for 1958 Fords Only two door models. Sedans or converts but mostly two door hard tops he must have had six or eight of them at different times throughout those years. They had to have the 352 Interceptor motor or he wasn’t interested. Natch I learned a lot about them from his interest. Those cars could do fabulous burnouts. not by holding the brakes while revving the engine but just flooring it from a standing start. They were pretty light in the back end and coupling that with 300 hp they could be fun to drive. It was popular to remove the crossbar from the grille and also to remove the insert from the “hood scoop”. Now these cars were 7 to 10 years old at the time and were readily readily available for $500 or less They were not classics then. Only used cars. Fun used cars

1957 and 1958 Fords are my favorites but I do not like continental tires or fender skirts.

Agreed. The kit and skirts made them look to long. My favorite of the 3 years was 1959. Those wheel covers are from a '59, not a '58. I know, picky - picky but he must have liked them better. Fantastic car!

Three years of Ford's in the 50's were similar yet different from each other; 57, 58, and 59. They were similar in paint schemes, trim, tail fins, and front hinged hoods. They were different in that the body style completely changed each year, instead of minor trim and grill changes in previous years. My uncle had a 58, another uncle had a 59, my dad bought a 59 used in the mid sixties for a second car he could drive to work and let my mom have the newer family car to drive to do the housewife chores. Many other people I knew had one of these three years of Fords. The statement was made here and in other classic car videos that the continental kit was popular in the fifties. Truth be known, I don't think they were very popular, because I didn't see very many of them. In fact, as a kid growing up, I only know two people that had cars from the 50's that had them. A teacher in my grade school had a 59 Fairlane with a retractable hardtop. Because of the top, the spare tire went into a continental kit. However, I have seen retractable hardtop models that didn't have continental kits, I suppose those had the spare stored in the luggage box. The other car with the kit was a 56 Thunderbird that a neighbor kid had in high school. All 55 and 56 T-birds had rhe Kits, Ford didn't make them any other way. In 57, Ford discontinued the Continental Kit on Thunderbirds. Having said all this, the car featured in this video is a beautiful car, I wouldn't have minded owning it at all. I like the color and I love convertibles. I had a 63 Ford Falcon Future convertible as my first car. If I owned this one, I would be tempted to get rid of the continental kit.
