1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Hardtop Retractable

Out of the museum collection is this 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Hardtop Retractable. Built for three years, from 1957 to 1959, these Hardtop Retractables were quite an innovation for Ford. This video looks closely at the 1958 Sun Gold and Gunmetal Gray convertible.
This example has had a frame-off rotisserie restoration by Jerry Miller, who has worked his magic on several other cars inside the museum. It is very well-optioned with power steering, power windows, power seats, and air conditioning. Check out the video for more on this outstanding Retractable.

Incredibly shocking!!!!!!!!🤯🤯🤯😵😵😵😵😵😵😵 never in a million years thought retractable hardtops even existed in the 50s wtf mindblowing!!! I thought the first hardtop retractable car was the 1997 sports 2 door convertible mercedes!

I have always felt that the 58 Fairlane 500 would have looked much better with Custom 300 type side trim. That side trim would have mimicked the stamped-in details on the Thunderbird - Ford wanted the 58 to "lunch" off of the Thunderbird. The Fairlane's side trim, at rear 3/4 views, makes the car look like it has been in a wreck and improperly repaired, as it conflicts with the fins.
