It so nice to hear a marvelous player, demo a guitar for what they really sound like. No effects, no distortion, just the beauty of the actual guitar. It never ceases to amaze me how people will try to convince us as to how great a guitar sounds once it's mired in distortion, delay, and what other gadgets are close by. This fellow did an amazing job of showing us what this 335 actually sounds like. Very impressive!

If you want to hear the "actual" guitar, it must be an acoustic. The electric guitar will always be a slave to the amp its played through. This is a beautiful combo though, no questioning that!
@lches33512 күн бұрын
@@jbilly24 I'm referring to hearing the guitar through an amp with flat settings. I have a bunch of old 335's, 345's, and a '65 355. With that center block, there's not much to hear, however this '61 ES-330 is a different story. My point was to demo the guitar in its purest (electric) form. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
@csharp5711 күн бұрын
@@lches335You were clear as day, but this is social media, you know how it is. Couldn’t agree with you more about clicking on a video and wanting to hear the characteristics of the guitar, only to hear the whole thing soaked in overdrive/distortion. Now if the amp is naturally breaking up on its own, that’s something totally different.

Guthrie is always mind boggling entertaining to hear and watch. He is a fantastic musician with a deep well of soulful playing. We also need Tom Bukovac, Jedd Hughes and Duke Levine doing some of these Carter Vintage Vids! 🙏

A great example of how superb playing skills do justice to the instrument sound, and... vice versa - how the instrument qualities complement skillful playing. Sheer pleasure to listen to 😀

I have exactly the same ES335 TDN model Gibson with factory fitted Bigsby, from new. I have been told that mine is a 1958 or late 1957. It is in immaculate condition with no checking of the finish and all original parts, and has never had frets replaced. I'm wondering what the guitar is valued at in America , and Australia where I live.

You hear something like this and it inspires you to never want to play again and gift all the good vintage guitars to this man and his friends. That’s how you demo a guitar - playing all over the neck to listen for tonal variety and fret issues.
@csharp5711 күн бұрын
Opposite for me. It inspires me to keep practicing, pushes me to play more. He didn’t wake up playing that way.

Jedd is amazing here. That said, Carter’s loses credibility listing this 000-42 for $300k. Are there Martins worth that much? Yes. Not this one - plenty of experts - like Schoenberg agree that this is irresponsibly priced.
