Hi welcome back, when we used to cut a laminate that was visible from both sides we used to tightly clamp a piece of wood either side of the board then cut through all three pieces. on the waste side if necessary screw through all three pieces near to the cut line to maintain clamping pressure, it can be quite effective reducing chipping and damage. Good luck its looking great.

HI Cameron just found your channel absolutely loving it, just a little tip on cutting your worktops, cut them 5mm bigger than you need and then get an electric planer and plane it down to the size you need, it will take all the chips out leaving a perfect edge with no chips. hope this helps.

If you score the laminate with a stanley knife through the Laminate surface then it shouldn't chip. Great to see you back

Thanks for the tip, someone else suggested that. I’ve got to recut some more pieces of laminate, so I’ll give that a go

I though I recognised the kitchen, our first van was a 1967 Sprite 400, towed by a Datsun 1200. We spent Christmas and New Year 1972/3 in the south of France. Full Christmas Dinner courtesy of two rings and a pressure cooker. Next Christmas and New Year found us skiing in the Alps. We were the only British van on a site full of French and German vans. Extra insulation was added, polystyrene blocks covered the glass windows and rudimentary mains electrics were installed. A bit of a squeeze for the four of us but great fun.

When cutting the worktop, stick some painters tape on it before you cut it, or cut it bigger and then plane the side or sand it down. Cheers

If you're doing anything like this again for the laminate is to find a kitchen manufacturer or carpentry shop that has a scoring blade on their panel saw. It cuts a scribing cut on the underside and will give you a clean cut top and bottom.

Can I ask … somewhere you mention using non setting sealants, and not silicone, could you recommend one ? I know sikaflex is a good brand, but I wouldn’t have a clue with product to use …
@NotAnotherWhiteBox3 жыл бұрын
Sikaflex is fine, most caravan dealerships carry their own version of it, which is perfectly fine to use.

Glad you found a solution - I was wondering if you cut the laminate oversize and then use and electric plane to take it down to size and preserve the edge ... but you found a way :-)
@paulsouth39263 жыл бұрын
The best solution with laminated chipboard of MDF is to rough cut it oversize then finish to size with a router, make sure that you run the router along the workpiece from left to right. With a new sharp router bit you should get a clean cutter top and bottom. Then just a quick sand with a block and on with the edging.

Most people back in the day 1960s put their caravans into storage for the winter months or whenever they werent using them, I know my grandparents did .

Try using a laminate blade on a router Great job by the way

use a curler saw and flip the worktop over so the face is facing downwards and u will get a clean cut
@NotAnotherWhiteBox3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I’ll see if I can give that a try when I cut the next piece

Have you tried using a down blade in your jigsaw as upblade causes jagged Edge but down blade should not cause jagged edge as it cuts down Hope this helps
