And to think I tried to talk him out of it. I was at the auction on Friday and I looked over the car and sent many pictures. Talking to Mr. Troost on Friday night I told him I didn't think the car was up to his standards(I found out 2 other people told him the same thing). As I talked to him I started to see the Edsel in a different light. He wasn't looking for perfection, he wanted a reasonably priced oddest of the odd ball cars. All the slight imperfections, most of which I made up, didn't matter. As long as he could buy it in his price range it was his. A case of he didn't know he needed it 'til he saw it. The 1st show he took it to it was magnet. We were at a show on Father's day. I brought his stunning '55 Old 98, he had the Edsel. As the day went on he asked which car was getting more attention I replied"You have to ask?". It's since been buffed( the alternative to painting) and that cadet blue really shines now. Also a little bit of detailing has been done under the hood. I think it's the ugliest of the 3 Edsels, as you can guess he strongly disagrees.

The 1960 Ford and Edsel dashes were visually different. I'm sure Ford wanted to recoup the tooling costs for as many parts as possible after the demise of the Edsel. The 1961 Fords received the 1960 Edsel dash. The public probably thought it was a new design. With so few 1960 Edsels produced not many people had seen the Edsel design. Great car! Great color as well!

I checked with the 1960 Edsel brochure, and there's a line drawing of the 1960 convertible in regal red with these wheel covers. Interesting thing with that is that they are also color keyed around that fake spinner part! That's the only illustration with this cover. This gentleman may be right and these were left over covers getting used up. What a beauty! Always surprised me, too, that Ford made a separate, special bumper in the rear for the Edsel incorporating those two little vertical spikes on each side, to further distinguish it from the Ford back end.

The '60 Edsel was way better looking than the Ford. It looks like it may be a Pontiac to me. Had they put a little more effort into promotion, this car might have been a winner! It's a shame that they put the 2-speed Ford-O-Matic. Every '60 Ford Galaxy that I've seen had the 3-speed cruise-O-Matic, even with the 292 V8. About the only other '60 Ford that had the Ford-O-Matic was the Falcon.
