I think I've seen one '60 Edsel at a show. On par with the '61 DeSoto I came across at a car show several years back and the rusty '60 DeSoto coupe I spotted for sale on the entrance road to Raceway Park Englishtown (R.I.P.) in my much younger days. Like this Edsel, those Mopars were among the last of their kind. Always found Edsel's push buttons at the center of the steering wheel to be an intriguing setup. Congrats on another spectacular find Lou. 1960 was end of the road for the Edsel marque so this is a true piece of history you have on display here.

The 1960 Edsel is my favorite car. Friends have told me I'm crazy when I say that. If I had an Edsel it would have to be a 1960. Great video. It really is a cut above the common Ford that is so similar. There is an elegance here that is not on the common 1960 ford. Love the color - Buttercup Yellow. It looks great on this car. I also love the wheel covers. Love the simplistic interior too. I love the tail lights on the station wagon best. What a fine example of a 1960 Edsel. This gentleman should be proud...he is also blessed...as I saw a couple of other Edsels in the background, probably his!!

Although fun was made of the Edsels, they were very stylish and unique. I took art in my Freshman year of high school. We were instructed to carve an image into a 6”x6” rubber floor tile. Well, I carved the rear of a 1958 Edsel! We inked it to use as a large stamp! It has disappeared since. Thank you Lou.

These Edsels have aged better than one would believe from the rumors. I think a Hot Rodder like Kindigit or Chip Foose should revisit this nameplate. Yeah, Ford was long in the tooth by then and was throwing the same old drive trains at the Car Market. But geez, twist some metal and drop In a newer power plant... just my thoughts. nice car and except for minor details it's a clone of the 1960 Ford Sunliner looks so much better w/o skirts btw, the 1960 Ford was about the widest car they ever made - too wide for some state regs so they had to narrow the car for 1961. found this interesting: "Because of the low production volumes in its three years, all Rangers are collectible; however, the 1960 Ranger convertible is frequently found as being counterfeit. The process for converting a 1960 Ford Sunliner convertible into a 1960 Edsel model involves the simple swapping of trim parts and refashioning of the rear fenders, a simple task for those who have an Edsel parts car. Edsel enthusiasts are generally wary of 1960 Edsels that have been "found" or are offered at lower prices than the going rates. Buyers and enthusiasts can check the manufacturers code to verify if the VIN matches Edsel production numbers for November 1959. Another way of checking is to measure the wheelbase; a genuine Edsel rides on a 120 in (3,048 mm) wheelbase, while a converted Ford Sunliner has a 119 in (3,023 mm) wheelbase"

Hi Rich, Happy to read "First one I've seen without the horse collar." :-) Lou
@todddenio32004 ай бұрын
Edsel never stood a chance of succeeding even if they had not used the horse collar grille. 1958 was a recession year so was not a good year to introduce a new car. Then to make matters worse, they were built on the same assembly lines as regular Fords were and the guys working on the assembly lines hated them because they would have to switch from building Fords to build a handful of Edsels and then switch back to building Fords so they started to sabotage the cars from day one and the dealerships had to find all of the issues and fix them which delayed customers getting their cars and often some of the issues with the cars weren't found so the cars were known to have issues. Sales suffered and they stopped building them early in 60 for legal obligations to the dealers otherwise they would have been dropped in 59.

Yes, Michael, the ‘60 Edsel shared powertrains with the Ford Galaxie. This one on the video had the baseline 292 cu in V8 and the 2-speed automatic. My dad had the same engine and transmission in our ‘59 Galaxie. The earlier Edsels, the ‘58 and ‘59’s, were marketed as more premium cars so they tended to have the Ford 312 or 352 cu in engines with the 3-speed transmission.

Wow, Lou! What a unicorn! I was 6 years old in 1960, and saw very few 1960 Edsels. You can tell that the 1960 Edsel was an afterthought by the way the taillights were “stuck on” without really being integrated into the design. Looks like the designers were pulled off a dying project and just threw them onto the back! While it’s an ugly car in my opinion, it’s a great preservation of Americana and I’ll bet the owner has a great time at car shows!!!

Ford always sold the Edsel short on equipment. Chrysler did the same on the DeSoto. It's kind of crazy that they would use a 2-speed automatic on most Edsels since 1959. Ford was definitely not putting it's best foot forward with the Edsel line. Probably one of the reasons that the brand failed. With the 1960 comparable Ford, every one of those I have come across, with the 292 "Y" block, they all had the 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic if they had an automatic. In my mind, the typical Edsel new-car buyer though of themselves as sophisticated but everyone else could see that they weren't.
