Great pairing of two classic projects. Thank you for the How To operating instructions. The icing on the cake would be to operate the Transmitter with your Heathkit VF-1 VFO. We don't need no stinking crystals !!!

Wow! Amazing. And a free code practice no extra charge. Thanks for showing your cw skills as well. That receiver seems very stable.

A single tube transmitter on 15 meters tripling from 7mhz to 21mhz could very well throw a strong sub-harmonic out on 7 and 14 mhz and was usually NOT recommended! It could work if you had extra filtering between the transmitter and the antenna, but a better idea was to use a separate oscillator stage with a plate circuit tank tuned to the desired band, and operate the final straight through. A 6V6, 6F6, 12A6 6aQ5, or ANY small power pentode / beam power tube designed for class A audio output service would work fine as the oscillator, and any B&W TV sweep tube such as the 6BG6G (which was really an 807 with an octal base), 6BQ6, 6DQ6, etc, would make a good final. My Novice transmitter was an Elmac AF67 mobile rig bought from Harrison Electronics down in NYC's Radio Row during their Washington's Birthday sale. They had a pile of those transmitters (ALL of them had BO modulation transformers), but they all worked FB on CW. I made my own AC power supply for it using junk parts from thrown out TV sets.

Thank you for this series, Mike! I've built a two tube transmitter but the receiver may be a bit much for my abilities. Will watch the series again and decide. 🤔

Very nice setup Mike. The TX sounds good. I like the subtle chirp. New RX also working well. Your first FCC "Love Letter". This implies there has been more than one risque affair with spurious emissions? 😂

Built that Handbook TX in HS Shop class. The "foundation" for the TX was the chassis of an old Halicrafters receiver; This included the power supply transformer and 5U4. I had a couple of 6DQ6's from old TVs. The only part I had to buy was the 0V3 Screen Regulator,. This was back I was first licensed as a Tech, and we were given Novice band access in1976 The receiver I had then was a General Coverage Philmore AC5(with a Heath Q Mulitplier) DE WA1YKL
