@@vaccumme Look at the 5 Ton and take a peek at the Right Fender.There is no Intake/Air Breather on the outside.The truck is a M54A0,with a R602 Continental 9.9L.These M50 5 Tons came in three Variants.The ones without a Intake exposed on the Outside where the right Fender is were all Gasoline.The ones with a Intake/Breather attached to the Hood either had a EDNT-673 Mack or a LDT-465-1A.

Impressive. Most people focus on the sexy vehicles like tanks and helicopters and jets. But to me, these are the vehicles that make a country strong. Those "sexy" vehicles wouldn't go very far without trucks like these keeping them fueled and armed, and the men who operate them fed and safe. This truck here is a great example.

Looks a lot like Ocean Shores, WA. Nice pull, good driver. Others would have dug that 5-Ton in the sand real quick. I love those trucks. Use to drive one from 76-79 in Bamberg Germany, with the 1/54th INF. Great memories. I painted the face of a Tiger with a single stem rose on the face of the air cleaner. Trucks top speed isn't much but will climb steep hills with a full load like its not problem. Designed to haul tons of munitions for the Infantry and Artillery across most any terrain.

@@rogerg0834 Isn't that a Vietnam Era 5 ton? Because some of those are powered by Mack ENDT-673 turbocharged diesel engine, and some other of those 5 ton trucks are powered by the LDS-465-1A turbocharged multifuel engine, I saw those anywhere in the internet.

The dude driving the 5 ton knew what he was doing and didn't spin down. Whoever was driving the ton wrecker should have never been in the deep sand to pull the truck out. It is difficult to beat military trucks for getting the job done. Many years ago, I once pulled and/or winched, my 66 chevy 4x4, some kid's high dollar Jeep CJ, and a brand new, 77 Ford 4x4, who had pulled in to watch, out of muddy bottom land, with a flat head 6 cylinder, 1954 Dodge 3/4 ton weapons carrier, which I had given $250.00 for. All of this was on the same afternoon. I traded the Chevy for a Datsun pickup and kept the Power Wagon. I ended up, much later, selling the old Dodge. Wish I had kept it.

continental 602ci ..My unit had M62 wrecker, 2 M54 cargoes, 7 M52 tractors, as well as the diesels. Their problem was the Holley carb. It defaulted to full-open butterfly as vacuum fell. It was wide open when you started engine. And if it coughed or hestitated, it made itself worse by defaulting to full open. When carb was in adjustment and engine at temp, these gassers out-performed diesels in horsepower & road speed. Retrofit Zenith carbs were a huge improvement. I own 5T gassers & diesels.

Well, chain is pretty strong for a smooth pull. But when you put a jolt on it, it gets way too small for the job really fast. You can slowly and smoothly pull a Boeing 747 airliner with a high grade 3/8" chain. But you can possibly also break the same chain by jerking at a small Volkswagen with it. It's better to use a strap or rope that will stretch. It makes for a much easier, more comfortable, and far safer recovery.
@ROTAXD
@ROTAXD 7 жыл бұрын
mrbigaxe chains can and do break even with a smooth pull. In a pinch you use what you've got on hand...but always, always, always put a damper over the chain. A tarp, or even a beach towel can keep someone from getting their head taken off.

The M50 5 Ton Trucks from 1951-1965 had a 465 Multi-Fuel only if the truck was a A2.Example:M51A2,M52A2,M54A2,etc. The one in the video is a A0,a M54A0 Cargo Truck,one way to notice is there is no Air Breather on the Right Fender,the ones that had Multi-Fuels will have a Intake on the Passenger Side Fender.However,there was also a A1,and those have Breathers exposed on the outside also,but those had a EDNT-673 Mack and only Mack built them.

@Slim_Slid
@Slim_Slid 5 жыл бұрын
Gasoline is only applied in a Emergency.But on a normal operation,never use Gasoline unless it's Mixed with Oil by 30/70%,you can't use it on Half/Half.Jet Fuel also is highly flammable and is not recommended unless it is necessary.Multi-Fuels are still categorized as Diesel Engines,they can Combust anything that contains Oil in it like a Diesel.Using purified and unmixed Gasoline will result in destroying the Fuel Injectors and Fuel Pumps,eventually.And,depending on how much you'd just burned in that truck,it's either going to need a Rebuild or sit for a week until it can even have a chance to Crank over.

Nope. Do that and it would blow up :) You need a multifuel engine specifically for that. Different piston design and injectors. The multi is in the same family as a diesel, but its another beast all together. Multi's are low on power though. Perfect for a deuce, gutless for a 5 tonner.

A LDS with 175 HP and 445 Torque makes alot more power than a LDT with 135 HP and 330 Torque.The M50 5 Tons from 1951-1965 had a LDT-465 only if the truck was a A2.The one in the video is a A0,the Right Fender without a Intake/Breather laying on it is a giveaway.All the A0's had R602 Continentals.They were much more gutless than the 465,a 465 is a 7.8L,the 602 is a 9.9L.I speak from experience,espiecally noting the fact that I own a American La France Firetruck with a R883 Continental that is a 14.1L.There was also M50 A1's,and those had a EDNT-673 Mack as a 11.0L,much better Engine except that it has smaller Valves than a real Therodyne 673 that I can have in a B-51/73 Mack Semi-Tractor.

Ford built 4×4 1 1/2 Ton Trucks for the Army and Navy,those that they built were based on their early 1940's Civilian Pickups and they kept that Bodystyle for the War Efforts.GMC built CCKW's for the Army,International built CCKW's for the Navy,and Studebaker built CCKW's for the Marine Corps.Chevrolet made the G500 1 1/2 Ton Half Dueces,the CCKW's were 2 1/2 Ton but they called them Jimmy's so that they didn't get confused with the M35 Duece & Half,the G500's were also 4×4,the CCKW was a 6×6.La Ward France and Kenworth built Wreckers also,but most to nearly all were owned by the French and spent their time during the War in Europe. Ford themselves made up a huge chunk of Military Vehicles during World War ll,before Chrysler got involved later on,Ford made Sherman Tanks with GAA V8's,which are the same Cubic Inches as a C18 Caterpillar,monster Engines.The GAA was also used in Ford M8-M20 Armored Cars and M-5 Tractors,then there was the GPW Jeep which was based off the Willys MB,and then Ford even was involved in building Bombs and Aircrafts from Dive Bombers to Cargo Bombers. Reo was the one who designed the M35 Truck and even made them starting in 1950. The M35A0's had a OA-331 Gasoline that was made by Reo,but alot of them were made by Continental.
