Nice looking 1961 Buick LeSabre convertible! The Buick was always a class act car, and this Buick is no exception! Healthy sounding engine that runs smooth and quiet. Great looking interior and instrument cluster. This car is one true classic Lou!

I love LO VE the speedometers on late 50s and early 60s GM cars. This '61 is one of the neatest things I've ever seen and got a hands-on time to play with that old Buick of my Uncle's... There's a quote from A Christams Story that pretty much sums up my dad's opinion of GM full size cars: "Some men are Baptists, others Catholics, my father was an Oldsmobile man." We always get a good chuckle over that during the holiday season.

Hi, Lou! After a year of the "Chromemobile" and two years of "Delta Wing" fins, Buick in 1961 brought out "The Clean Look of Action". Yes, I do believe car this would stand out in a neighborhood full of Mercdes! The dash looks very distinctive with the adjustable speedometer, the recessed cove and the clock on the pedestal. All in all, quite an awesome reward for a lifetime of work! Enjoy it, Jim, and thank to both of you for sharing!

Dad had one of these in Brown on Brown in HardTop form. I remember that annoying Speed minder buzzer. I really liked the styling of this one. As a family of 7 with 3 in the front, and 4 in the rear. I was 6 years old so it was 1968.

Wow, how did your family fit in a '61 Buick?! It _was_ big, all right, but why didn't your father get a window van, like _my_ father did? My father had a '63 VW microbus from 1968 to 1971. Lots of room, but it was nightmarishly s-l-o-w. This was before the first gas crisis, mind you. _(5/6/2023)_

¡Bonito este clásico Buick LeSabre Convertible 1961 en Blanco Ártico! Me gustó esa pieza de adorno cromada, tipo aleta, de la cubierta del motor, y sus singulares luces traseras. Hi Lou, great to see another video as always! That 1961 Buick convertible is a beaut! You don't see many today; I haven't seen any '61 Buicks since about the 1980s. The few I did see were awfully tired and worn out by then. I noticed that '61 Buick ragtops seem to follow you every time you go to a car show. As you mentioned, you had done a video on a white '61 Buick Invicta convertible. I came upon a video of _another_ 1961 Buick LeSabre convertible - a red and white one - that you had done a while back. Are they making sort of a comeback in 2022-23? Old Buicks - and old cars in general - never really die. They're still out there if you look hard enough! Anyway, thanks again, Lou, for another fantastic video! _(5/6/2023)_

The Invicta model has additional stainless trim on the lower indent on the sides. The one year "arrow" design makes these unique. People talk about how it feels like floating while driving old Cadillacs, these Buicks ride just the same.

Another beautiful car Lou I was parked beside one a few years ago at a car show looked just like this except it was black with a black convertible top and red interior. The guy had owned it since like 1967 or 1968,he said that he only had it for a couple weeks then got a draft notice in the mail and went to Vietnam it stayed in his parents barn during that time and was waiting when he got home. That's the only one of these I have ever seen in person. Is it known how many were built?

Nice to see such a classic is great hands. He certainly knew what he wanted when he took a flight the very next day to look at this beauty. One question I have is there seems to be a bottle for radiator overflow on the right hand side just above the battery. Was that original equipment or a modification put in after the fact? Thanks for putting the video forward for your viewers Lou.

1961 Buick LeSabre. The Buick LeSabre would be introduced back two years prior in 1959 with the Invicta, Electra, and Wildcat. The Buick Electra would be the top-of-the-line model, while the LeSabre would be middle-end-of-the-line-model. It was introduced with in 2-door sedan and 4-door sedan counterparts and had an extremely angry-looking appearance. The front-end featured quad headlights at the front, a distinctive square pattern seen on the grille, turn signals that were below the grille, and two emblems (One on top of the car and the other in the middle of the car's front grille. The car also featured two circular taillights, one on each side of the car's rear fascia. For 1960, the car's front end would have another dramatic redesign. The headlights are now positioned in the middle of the car's front end, the grille has been reshaped and features new vertical lines, there is a Buick emblem in the middle of the grille, a "B U I C K" wording above the grille in the middle of the car, and repositioned side turn signals with a redesigned front bumper. They would also have a metal trim on the sides, a "LeSabre" badge on the sides, and three new cosmetic vents. The LeSabre only featured a 250 hp 364 cubic inch (6.0 Litre) V8. The main cost of a 1959-1960 LeSabre was around $3,500 in 1960 ($25,000 today in 2023 dollars). The second generation 1961 LeSabre drastically redesigned the car for the third time in a row and came with a 4.9 Litre (300 Cubic Inch) Buick "Small-Block" V8 and a 6.0 Litre or 6.6 Litre (366 Cubic Inch or 403 Cubic Inch) Buick "Nailhead" V8, which was also featured on the 1963-1965 Buick Riviera, but were 390 Cubic Inches (6.4 Litre) and 425 Cubic Inches (7.0 Litre). The front end featured a grille with horizontal lines with mini hatches, quad headlights, a bullet-fin front bumper, redesigned turn signals, and two Buick emblems (B U I C K wording above the grille and the iconic Buick symbol in the middle of the car's grille). The sides featured ovular cosmetic vents, the "LeSabre" badging, and a metal trim with a more rounded design. The Buick LeSabre in 1961 costed around $3,100 ($22,000 in today's money).

My dad bought a very nice, 1959 Buick LeSabre convertible...bright red...it had large, flowing fins!...Suddenly, I was being allowed to drive a couple of my neighborhood female classmates to High School! Like this car, it had that 364ci 2bbl, and that rather sluggish dynaflow transmission. No matter, it was a real "pose" car. It was a few years old when my dad bought it...there was some rust forming in the wheel wells, so in 1967, he traded in the car, for a brand new 1967 Wildcat sedan. He drove that Wildcat for over 20 years, and over 320,000 miles! Buicks were very solid, reliable vehicles during those days.

Not my favorite year for Buick, but this is a nice example of a clean 1961 Buick. To me there was not enough distinction from other GM models. Without the port holes, it could have been an Olds or Chevy or Pontiac. Not destinctive enough to be a Buick. But I love old cars and this one is a great example of a car from 1961! Of course I loved the detail of your video, I loved the way the speedometer rocked to change height for the driver!
