Dad bought a new 1960 Buick Le Sabre, same Dawn color, but his was a two door sedan. Buick with a post if you please. 364 Wildcat and auto transmission. It was a very smooth and great car. You can get a shift from low to drive by selecting low, gain some rpm and shift to drive, but to just drop it in drive, it felt like a one speed.

My dad had a 1960 dark blue Invicta (one step up the trim level) that was both gorgeous and a wonderful, comfortable cruiser. It boasted Buick's larger 401 cubic inch Fireball V8 engine. And it even HAD the clock! Great review. I’m jealous!

In my youth I had the 1960 Buick Electra 225 version. Unique and gorgeous; I especially loved the flat-roof "space car" look of that model. It had factory air, too. Sadly it later needed a valve job and in those days, people were economizing, so I got a Volvo instead of restoring the Buick. Stupid me!

BUICKS had some of the most beautiful lines! I found an abandoned INVICTA completely overgrown by bushes. First noticed at night when my headlights hit the taillights. From the distance, I thought it was an animal's eyes glowing red. Then saw the "eyes" again weeks later at night in the same place. A friend and I went back at daytime. After about an hour of clearing brush, we discovered a perfectly restorable convertable INVICTA the property owner did not even know was there. Property owner let us have it.

This is a great series for old car lovers like myself!..what makes it super special is all the cars seem to be 100% STOCK...the BEST way, the way they looked when they were mew from the factory...so much is lost from the character of an old car when it is "modded", especially when it is extensive and tries to incorporate all the current "fads"....

You did it again Charles! What a beautiful example. I love the color combo. I was brought home from the hospital in one in 1967, but an Electra sedan. The '59 is wilder, but there's something special about the '60. The body sculpturing is so sexy. By the way, you cracked me up with the taillight remark. Naughty Charles! :)

Beautiful car...and beautiful shirt! Both are striking and bold in their looks. The '59 and '60 Buicks were my first favorite cars. I remember buying a model kit of one when I was about 5 years old in '63. It cost a dollar, which my grandmother gave to me. I loved putting it together. The lines of the car are great, and this color is about the prettiest I've ever seen on one of these. THANKS!

Someone asked about the paint colors... looks to me like they are Pearl Fawn and Cordovan. DuPont Lucite Magic-Mirror paint, they called it. The darker color is Cordovan, kind of a dark purple that reminds me of Kiwi Shoe Polish. This LeSabre is really beautiful and original. Thanks, Charles, for showing it.

Once it starts rolling, the torque converter takes over. First can be held to about 50, for faster acceleration and engine braking. There is a reverse gear, obviously. The cost of that smooth thrust is terrible gas mileage.

1960 Buick LeSabre hardtop coupe with production of 26,521 units (also offered as a 2-Door Sedan with a post). Highly collectible now but sales were way down from the 1954 to 1957 era. The speedometer is called "Mirromagic" and is basically a mirror rotated by a thumb wheel to reflect off of a hidden speedometer. The crest refers to the three series offered, which were LeSabre, Invicta, and Electra. The clock is not a factory delete because it was optional equipment on the LeSabre. The most interesting thing about this car are the rare original California license plates...black lettering on poppy orange background. In 1963 the colors were reversed so it was easier to read at nighttime.

My brother had a 1961 LeSabre convertible. Same powertrain - nail-head 364 and the Dynaflow that Buick had renamed Turbine Drive to try to shed the old "Dyna-Slow" image. That was the only car he ever owned that delivered 10mpg city and 10mpg highway. With the slippage of the variable stator in the transmission, it went through gas like there was a hole in the tank. As I recall, the tank was rather small, too. It wouldn't go too far before you had to stop and fill it again.
@anthonywilson3846
@anthonywilson3846 2 жыл бұрын
Dynaflows are interesting and if you wonder why it can accelerate at different rates is because the veins of the fluid coupler can move to change the stall speed based on fluid pressure so no torque converter it has a fluid coupler. The geartrain only takes up like 1/3 of the transmission. The rest is the fluid coupler and the torque ball. The only planetary set in the geartrain is about as wide as the geartrain portion of the case and weights about 40 to 50lbs

I used to see these when I was a kid and never knew what to make of them. Did I love them? Did I hate them? Well, thank goodness for maturity because I LOVE this machine. It’s not a car. It’s a warp-driven STARSHIP! C’mon: how did they stamp that metal with all those creases & lines? Don’t tell me there wasn’t a failure rate. But, but, but: that dashboard! Who uses a mirror? BUICK does! And w/ a Dyna-Flow trans & that unique startup, it’s a treasure. Oh, and Buick was known for its better braking systems. The Wildcat engine graduated eventually into a short-lived stand alone coupe...arguably a muscle car...I think that happened in ‘64. Dad had a LeSabre but it was a ‘67...not as luscious as this one but...still pretty cool. God that dash: that’s a control panel out of 1950s sci-fi. Love it.

wow that one is a true beauty...spectacular...the colors are so classy. how the first owner must have felt driving that off the lot? I doubt he wanted to suck on it tho. One of my early car memories is sitting in a '60 Buick flattop 4 door, prob a LeSabre, and being amazed by that little external monocle that highlights the transmission gear...super cool detail...and so foreign to me as a kid with parents who only bought the cheapest cars with 3 on the trees. Buicks were definitely a step apart from the pantheon that was GM...the dynaflow, the starter button, the torque tube, the full frame, that mirrored instrument panel...very much their own brand.
