I am a retired EMT and I absolutely loved this restore. It took me a minute to figure out the CD on the doors. That is definitely something that you do not see anymore. In the basement of our ambulance barn we had 6 30 gallon drums of water that was made in the 1960s and would not expire until 2020. I tried to aquire one of them but I did not have the opportunity to remove one. Thank you for celebrating EMS with the 4th of July. EMTs are certainly forgotten at times - if you see one thank them. Just remember that the things they do come back in their dreams, and they see people on the worst day of their Ives.

I agree. Being a warning siren enthusiast it’s really crazy to see a CD logo on something else that’s not a siren.
@warphammer3 жыл бұрын
@@Kasey1776 The logo was often put on vehicles that were to be used as part of Civil Defense efforts. Ambulances, mail vehicles, even utility trucks would get the marking. In some places you'd actually have rescue squads with an affiliation to the local Civil Defense organization and they'd be marked something like this truck.

I know, that’s why I said that.

Years ago, I was a security guard and in the basement of the mall I was a guard that they had a old civil defense shelter. And there they had the 50 barrel drums for the water that you mentioned plus they had pallets of the survival rations which were basically crackers you would find in an MRE

Brilliant restoration there. A very handsome vehicle - I love all of Tonka's classic trucks - not easy to get in the UK - I never knew one other kid who had one in the mid 1960's. I had one of the basic pick up trucks, which was given to me by an uncle who was in the Merchant Navy, and that was played with to it's death (possibly by fireworks) many years later. I do like the Civil Defence markings on this. The year after it's release, the cold war got considerably warmer. Thank you for sharing. Nice one. 👍👍👍

For your cracking paint issue, the paint is needing to be incredibly flexible, so I would look into two details: surface prep/paint adhesion and paint compound. For the first one, maybe an adhesion promoter or an etching primer would make the powder coat fuse with the metal better. And for the second, the powder coat in that area seems quite thick. I know nothing about powder coating, but maybe see if there are other kinds of powder that allow some flexibility. Hope this helps! Amazing restoration!

Never worked with powder coat before so I don't know what the physical qualities are like with what you're using. Try a range of low heats progressively getting hotter to see if the paint can regain some flexibility when bent. Maybe also try pressing the tabs into place with smooth pressure after heating instead of tapping into place which gives fluctuations in downwards force and not consistent. Love this channel, it's so very relaxing to watch the silence at work!
@mikemaupin45073 жыл бұрын
You had me worried when you removed the sheet metal screw from the siren and put it in the rust remover, but you came through at the end and properly installed a machine screw. Gave me flash backs when I owned apartment buildings or worked in maintenance, lol.

To prevent the powder coat from cracking, you could try heating it before bending the tabs with a heat gun or similar. might be enough to soften it first. Love your videos, keep up the good work.

No sheep were injured in this episode. Trick photography was used extensively. Along with some glue and new eyeballs. That was the zaniest ending ever!!! Chip Channel does it again with a beeeee -uuuu-teee-ful restoration of a rescue vehicle. The great thing about finishing this vehicle when you did, is that it was needed immediately to rescue a victim of careless use of explosives. Who lit that thing anyway??? He was in baaaa-d shape though.
