I purchased this Rusty 1963 Tonka Suburban Pumper Fire Truck March of 2020 on eBay. It was missing many pieces and externally looked like it was in ok shape until you started looking closely. This truck was super rusty and needed help badly. During disassembly you could see just how bad this little truck was. It took several coats of filler primer to smooth out the pits for a clean top coat. Many of the parts were badly pitted. After finding the missing parts this truck went back together very well. It was definitely a bigger project than I expected looking at it. Overall I was super happy with how it came out. A big shout out to my favorite cousin that helped me with the ending scene she is the best, all the rest of my cousins are lame ; ) Thank you for watching!

I accidentally came across this fire truck video and my jaw dropped. This was the firetruck my dad and I used on Saturday mornings to put out a building fire in the backyard, only the building was a large cardboard box. I couldn't believe that it was actually the same truck till I saw the hydrant and fire hoses. My dad would cut windows in the box to simulate a warehouse, light it on fire, and the pumper would put it out. One morning a local cop jumped up on the fence to see what the smoke was from. He thought our house was on fire. As I recall the hoses on the first truck we had screwed on rather than pushed onto the hydrant and truck. My dad would comment how cheap that was. Anyway, thanks for bringing back what was only a memory till now.

When I was a kid, back in '63 or '64, my grandparents bought me one of those fire trucks. I loved it, but was never allowed to take it outside to hook it up to the garden hose. They didn't want me to get muddy! Oh, well. Some 57 years later I finally get to see it in action. Better late than never! Looks just as I remember it. Great restoration. Never would have guessed so many parts went into its construction.

I, too, find myself amazed at just how many separate parts there are. I played with a lot of Tonka Trucks and never knew how complex they were. Why can he restore them? ... Because things back then were quality made, well built toys, meant to last longer than a year or two. I wish I still had all of mine 😣

As a "recent kid" i Wish my toys were like these, most of the time i used to get cheapy plastic models that would shred to pieces in a matter of weeks, my most valued toy possession is a Abarth 131 in alitalia livery that i bought when i was 14(i'm 22 now and my passion for boxy cars sublimed when i bought my alfa 75) but almost none of the other toy cars i had lasted to this day

I was 7 years old when this model of truck came out. These videos really make me want to shut off my computer, turn off the news, grab some Tonka metal trucks and toys, go outside and play. Just play. In a big pile of dirt. Until my Mom shouts out the back screen door "supper!"

I had a very similiar fire truck , like this, I got for Christmas, in 1957. The truck was a 1956 Ford. It also had the same hose reel. It came with a hose adapter, in the form of a fire hydrant; inlet was garden hose, outlet was a suction hose, mounted on the truck hose rack, that fed the truck, and water came out of the hose reel nozzle. The hydrant was a shut off valve, worked with a mini hydrant wrench actually shut off the water. I loved it.....!!!!!!

Just imagine how many imaginary fires these trucks put out and how many cats were saved from trees with those little latter's. These toys were from when we had imaginations and went outside to play the kids now days no nothing about that kind of fun and all the places you could go right there in your own backyard it wont about how much it cost or how new it was it was just about the fun and being a kid. Back when all you needed was a good old fire truck and a good imagination and some dirt to play in that truck would make you a hero in your own backyard. Much love from me and mine to you and yours. Love the videos and keep up the awesome work.

Awesome renovation. I really like the attention to all the details you take, all the tiny details. Like straightening tabs and edges that need it, sandblasting the insides too. Showing all the replacement parts. Do so much that so many others do not do or show. Note: I said so many others, NOT all others. You even demonstrate that they work. It is amazing how many pieces and parts there are. When you are tearing down, it does not seem so much, then you show them all laid out. WOW! I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing with us. Take care and stay safe. ♥😺♥🤗♥

This is another wonderful restoration. I had to pause for a moment as I swore I had seen this before. Turns out, what I was thinking of was another restoration from another channel of one of these trucks in equally horrible condition. I guess nearly all these poor little trucks have ended up in about the same shape and have nearly all the same parts missing off of them. Additionally, good on you for listing the parts and materials. I think far too many people take for granted just how expensive it is to restore a toy like this.

What i think about beside the great restoration is that at one time each of these toys were a kids Christmas or maybe a birthday present. The joy that each one must have given a child. The little things each of us leave behind in the journey of life that for a moment in time meant the world to us. Amazing.

Love to see the toys that I played with as a kid again, You do a great job of making them look like they just came out of the box. I'm glad that I did not keep them in a box and had years of fun with my friends destroying the toys my mom and dad gave me, but now I wish I keep them in better shape so my son could have had them too. They just don't make them to last now and the ones that are made to last are priced so high that they are collector items and will sit in a case and never be used for the years of fun that they should be used for. Always make me sad to see toys stuck in a case were kids can't gain from the joy and fun that they were made for. I don't think I would have built machines for all the years I did if I didn't have the years of playing with all the Tonka toys that I had as a kid. If your going to buy a toy to save, buy one for your kids to destroy. When you see there eyes light up as they are playing with them, you can't put a price on it and that is the way it should be.

I got a Tonka firetruck for Christmas in 1977. While it didn't look like that one, the rubber hoses were exactly the same. I had a fire hydrant too, but I don't remember having to use a wrench to open and close it, I think mine had a spoked wheel on top instead. Great job on the restoration.

What a great junkyard, with many more probable restorations in the future. Who knows what will be next (maybe the cyclops sheep?). 🚗🚙🚚🚛

My brother's had that same fire truck. I remember it from when I was young - in the early 60's - gulp.

Looks like heating the rims and tires to remove the pieces can potentially save you having to replace some in the future! Awesome job!

Ok. I admit it. The kid in me was secretly hoping you would demonstrate the water coming through the hydrant, into the truck, and spray some water. There. Ok I said it. 😂😂😂
