The catch is on the passenger side to prevent the operator from being struck blind sided while under the hood with his or her back to traffic flow. A safety feature WAY ahead of its time!!

I do like the blue and wood interior with the wood look plastic steering wheel. You could get brushed stainless instead of the wood. The technology for the top folding was developed by Ford for the 1957 Ford Fairlane hardtop convertible.

The hood safety latch is on the right so that if you ever needed road-side service you would be on the side away from traffic as you worked under the hood.

Narrow white walls came out in 1962 and you could choose wide or narrow. But the narrow ones were pretty wide like these.

All the AC units at that time was an add on unit even out of the factory. In 1970 I had a 1962 Lincoln hard top and it did not have air but the manual that came with the car showed the AC unit and it was just like the one shown here. Sure wish I had that car back.

Factory air was not an add on. it was built into the center of the dash--1961 was concealed and tipped out when readied for use. 62-63 were in the center of the dash, later models equipped with air from the factory were like more modern designs with the venting placed throughout the dash. Air was an expensive option and many luxury cars of the era were ordered with out it in mild climates.

One of the classiest car's ever to roll down the road. The safety release on the hood is on the right side for just that reason "safety". If ever you had to pull over on the side of the road and open the hood , you would be safe from other passing motorist's.

Tony, One bad dog is right, the exterior hood safety latch is on the passenger side on purpose to make you stand on the side away from the traffic. To the poster Clockwork....the top takes up the whole trunk, very little room left in the trunk with the top down....but who cares right, a very nice car with no luggage space!

I agree. Doesn't need harsh noises as music in this. Something softer would be more appropriate in my humble opinion. Some light symphonic music, perhaps as this car is elegant, a piece of art where so much work by humans went into because these were the days of excitement and innovation. when Americans had something to life for. Now? Pfft.

Stock carburetor for a '61 and '62 Lincoln was a Carter AFY two-barrel.

They put the hood release on the passenger side because the "oil", "transmission", and "water" fluid levels checks were on the passenger side. The normal reason for opening the hood of a luxury car back in the day was to check the fluid levels - only one stop at the passenger side!

i am to think the safety catch is on the passengers side so the person opening the hood is on the sidewalk. kinda bugs me when i open my hood. my lincoln does not have a/c, i personally think the a/c in this car is after market. this 62 lincoln is awesome. not sure why it says dual power seats? not wide whites, 1 inch. i drive mine everyday. always park up front and people love it, i need a paint job :)

That's a beautiful Continental. Unfortunately, the air condition unit is an after market installation. Lincoln Division would never have put up with something so clunky messing with the design and feel of those Lincolns. The authentic air conditioning, for cars so equipped, came from a flip down extension from underneath the center console where that ashtray is. It was not in the way of the legroom in the front seat. Air was also piped through the air and heating by passes that were on the floor under the front bench seats. This would be a big impairment if you wanted a show car. Also the 430 engine was carbureted with a Carter AFB four barrel in 1963 with the engine producing 320 horsepower. For such a heavy car the performance was much improved over the previous two barrel used in 1961-62.

Here's the irony in the fact this Lincoln Continental has suicide doors the safety latch for the hood is on the right is so if you need to go under the hood on the road you are out of traffic, however getting out of the back seat in traffic not safe hence the name "suicide doors" you may not die but you may loose your legs! (least ways that's what I'm thinking)

That is not aftermarket, that is the way they were installed at the factory. Those models of Continentals never had vents in the dash.

Aftermarket fender skirts look great for 1961-1967 Lincoln Continental 4 door convertible sedan, which give it a 1930s look. I like 4 door convertible and it is a boat with 4 wheels. Wish the Lincoln Continental bring back 4 door convertible sedan again with center opening doors (rear doors are hinged at the back as of suicide doors). Unfortunately it is the least body style, and for 1966, Lincoln Continental bring back the 2 door hardtop since 1960 and it is about 15,866 built. It is more then 5 times then the 4 door convertible sedan (2,800 built). By March 1967, Lincoln Continental rolled out the last of 2,280 convertible sedan, because Ford Motor Company is losing money during the 1967 model year. By the way, Lincoln Continental built 11,060 2 door hardtop of that year, and for both 1968, and 1969, Lincoln Continental did built more then 10,000 2 door hardtop each.
