The cars of the mid 50s to the mid 60s were truly works of rolling art. Even seeing one sitting in a junkyard highlights the glory of a bygone era. People drove these cars with pride whether it was a Chevy or a Cadillac or anything in between. Nowadays we get into a car and are greeted by a bunch of touchscreens.

Whoa Nelley, a Monterey and it may be going away... You could get a 223 six cylinder, a 292 V8, a 352 V8 or a 390 V8 in 1962 in the Monterey line. This one originally had a 390 V8 with a four barrel. We got the tag, we can brag: 54B for Monterey four door sedan custom, M for Sultana White exterior paint, 14B for Beige interior trim, 15E for May 15, 1962 production which was a Tuesday, 1 for 2.89:1 rear axle, non-locking, 4 for dual range automatic transmission. We got the VIN, we win: 2 for 1962 model year, Z for Hazelwood (St. Louis), MO assembly, 62 for Monterey four door custom sedan, Z for 390 V8 with four barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The Hazelwood plant operated from 1948 to 2006. Whoa Nelley, 1962 and it may soon be over for you. 3-9-0 and may have to go. Might soon be flat and that will be that. Made in Hazelwood and it's no good. That's it, time to quit. Going to maybe get squished and the FOMOCO faithful are going to be pissed.

I would LOVE to have the ornament above the rear door handle (on the rear roof pillar). I believe it has the Mercury Winged Messenger, who I remember from my childhood. Always loved it, always will

If I'm not wrong, this is the last year of the conventional rear window before the awesome slanted rear window that goes down. The window was redesigned in 1963 to keep the rain off the window, wonder how well it worked! Anyways, it is savable, it's much more solid than the 70 Buick Skylark, but it's much less desirable than it! I'd love to cruise to church, Costco, a breakfast place, or to the Post Office in a classic (pre 1984) "More Door"!
