It's so good seeing Sir David driving the van again. It brings back memories.

I used to have one back in the 70s, it was faded red(so pink) I absolutely frashed the hell out of it , you had to be really smooth with your driving, I was nick by the police for doing 74 mph, down hill, 😂 the police officer said he would not had believe it if he didn't see it , it was a great little van for a youngster, it definitely made you a good driver.

My mate used to have one of these, exactly the same colour. Back in the days when we were studying, one morning he arrived late at the Poly (Manchester). When he got into the class he was carrying the driving wheel in his hand. He explained that driving from Shefeild to Manchester he'd hit a sheep and the wheel came off. Absolutely true.

Maybe he invented the first anti theft device, the no wheel!

Great clip! I used to own a blue Regal Supervan in the 80's. It made a noise very similar to a Velocirapter in Jurassic Park when I pulled away in it. Also, someone stole it and...wait for it....brought it back! I sold it to a chap who worked at The Tea Factory in Crewe and apparently he turned it over in the Tea Factory Car Park. ;-)

Mate used to have one in late 60s. We once (four of us) went from Manchester to near Huddersfield in first gear -- it was a pea-souper. Police cars were abandoned but the Regal got us home!!!

70 mpg? Need more of these now :)
@poolfarm26 күн бұрын
The Reliant motor company used to hold a track competition in the late 60's early 70's to see who could squeeze out the best MPG from a Regal. I think the best ever recorded mileage was in 1971 with an MPG of 104 !!!

In truthfulness - when Only fools started in 1981 - the Regal Supervan would have barely been ten years old - and production only finished in 1973 so at that point you used to see plenty of them on the road - and whilst even back then they would have been a left field choice in comparison to an Escort or Marina van - they weren't quite the anachronistic choice that they were made to look like in later years. Sir David has restored many motorcycles in his acting downtime over the years and im sure he appreciates the fine all alloy 848cc Reliant engine which powered the Supervan 3.
@ruthbees7214 Жыл бұрын
It's a reliant supavan. The regal is the model with a boot and the Robin is a later updated model.😁

I had the "estate " version. Supervan III with perspex side windows! I think it was '70s comedian Jasper Carrot who first used the name Robin Reliant instead of Reliant Robin.

I'd just love to see the faces of the public in Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst drove to some random but busy place got out of their van and went for a beer or something, without fuss or fanfare. Would people believe their eyes?
