The metal top with its simulated convertible look caused a lot of excitement in 1962 as I recall. It was really a brilliant styling trick. The '62 Olds was one of the most attractive GM offerings.

Yep GM had that top 62-64

@@dennishipsley8703 I never liked that bubble top on the 61s. It must not have been that popular . I guess it was 1961 only?

I have a 1:18 scale model of your car. IT'S MY FAVORITE! NICE CAR YOU GOT THERE!

Mine was eggshell which set off the chrome side piece. The interior was white which really brought out the beauty of the bucket seats. Wish I hadn't blown up the engine but hey, I was 20. Loved that car.

I'll tell you what - $4661.00 was huge money for a car in 1962!

My dream car. Some desire a Rolls-Royce, some a Bentley or some other high or ultra high end automobile ( I did not say 'car' for a reason). If any one who has experienced an 1962 Oldsmobile Sta0rfire, cannot call that experience merely a 'car'. My father, owned cadila

.. sorry) added to last reply... . Ended up an Serious Olds man. Holliday 88, Olds 98 Luxury Sedan and a 1962 Olds Starfire. I knew every inch, washed and Blue Coraled it every weekend, (inside and out), and drove it, when I was allowed. Raved comments from anyone who saw it, still or in motion... and the engine sound, OMG! Would love to own one once again. Have shown the grand kids pics on U-Tube, and they even say, that's a pretty , (I'll forgive them), car. 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire. Automobile of my dreams. You've got to experience one.

In 1962 I was in high school and let me tell you that silver strip olds were Da Bomb. The car was a total knock out! Everyone I knew wanted to be at the wheel of this or the new pontiac grand prix. But the Olds attracted a, well, more upper class following than the Pontiacs. The two big problems with some of early 60's Olds was that after raising the price of the top oldsto nearly a cadillac, GM decided to save money and put in the horrible slush box power glide two speed transmissions then when buyers howled said the four speed trans was too costly. People if they wanted to keep the car had to put in the exec pontiac 4 speed trans. But most simply sold the power glide cars. Their next car, believe me, was a Chrysler kids.... The other major problem was the #$%&@ hydraulic lifters. It hot weather they would pump up and stall the engine. There were gurus who could machine the lifters others put in noisy mechanical lifters or.some guys. Put in ROLLER lifters with the kit and a 3/4 cam and then bragged they had an "roller cam" .in their car. What great memories. There were lifter gurus who could machine the lifters

I'm glad you restored it to original, factory stock condition. Too many of these cars are modified and souped up, losing their originality. The stylists knew what they were doing when they designed them, and I think they should be left that way! Beautiful car!
@mr.blackhawk1422 жыл бұрын
Joe, yes, good point, and why ORIGINAL restored cars are worth much more $$$.

Those were good cars with the exception of the crappy Jetaway transmissions. Chroming of the jack was a silly waste of money! Great color!

there is a girl on teen titans named starfire. just as beautiful as these cars. 1961 1962 1963 1964
These cars came with a generator in 1962 if not equipped with A/C; this alternator is not stock.

MrGGPRI....so? The car was made more reliable, what's the issue with that....
@craigjorgensen46375 жыл бұрын
MrGGPRI True. A car of that caliber should really have air conditioning. It’s not an Impala.

Beautiful car. But $4000 dollars in '62 equates to about $35,000 dollars today. That is a "Princely Sum" to pay for an automobile, and exactly why I would never buy a brand new car (Unless I was so wealthy that I didn't have to worry about money).
