Good morning Dave. I rebuilt my rocker shaft on my TR several years ago and did replace the shaft as it was grooved. And you are correct about being careful to get all the rockers back in the correct order. Shop looks great (you inspired me to get off my ass and clean up my own garage/workspace). I know that you have been busy at work and haven't been posting any vids for awhile but Elin has been keeping us entertained. Summer is upon us! Jerry 😎👍

I read somewhere or was told that it is very important that the faces of the rocker arms must hit squarely on the centrelines of the tops of the valve stems. BTW, nice garage, now you know where everything is.

Hi Chef! Was the replacement shaft you bought one of the nitrided/hardened type? And did you still need to ream the rocker arm bushings, or did they fit nocely after you polished up the shaft? Did you use Elin's lathe for the polishing work? I'm asking because I have one of those shafts sitting on a shelf, waiting to do the same job on my TR4 (eventually). I'm wondering if I will need to do the same. Finally, I was wondering if you are using 3-in-1 oil as a rebuild lubricant? Personally I like to use Lucas Oil Stabilizer for that purpose. Nice and thick, it really stays where you put it, but it should easily blend with the engine oil when the engine is started.

Hi Alan, yes, it was the nitrided/hardened shaft. I didn’t end up reaming the rockers to fit. I used Elins lathe and just polished it and everything fit…I did end up polishing the inside surface of the pedestals as well with my dremel as they were very tight on the shaft as well. For the shaft I’m just using light oil but the intent is that when I put engine oil in the car for the first time ( break in oil), it will be poured into the engine from the top with the valve cover off, over the rockers assembly. For the rest of the engine assembly, I’m using permatex assembly lube.
