The song is Boys by the Beatles. As for the 63 buick , my grandparents owned a 63 Electra 225, Willow mist , or green with a white cloth interior. Their car was loaded with a turn dail located between crome levers, in front of radio for the a/c control choices, vent, a\c, defrost and heat. This is a rare feature because when i see photos of 63 or 64 buick dasboards, i have not come across one yet with this feature.

@@DSP1968 awesome choices. I would’ve probably given anything to see the world covered in cars like these… when I was growing up everybody in their mom had a green Buick LeSabre from like 1996 or late 80s Ford LTD Lincoln town cars they were everywhere and now they’re nowhere

A fine example! Cars such as this Buick were all over the neighborhood when I was a grade school youth. I have fond memories of getting on board the neighbor's '66 Chevy Biscayne wagon on cold winter mornings to go to school. Some others that bring back memories are '64 Plymouth Belvidere, 66 Ford Galaxies 500 XL, 62 Studebaker Lark, 65 Olds F85, 64 Dodge Dart GT, 64 Olds Dynamic 88 Fiesta wagon. Oh the memories of the '60's!

This is the last year for the Twin-Turbine Dynaflow transmission, referred to as "Turbine-Drive" at this point. Starting with the 1964 full-size Buicks, they would get the Turbo Hydra-Matic (3-range) unit, sometimes called "Super-Turbine" in Buick literature.

Impressive, the improvements in power and efficiency in 50 years. The 401 (6.6) maxed at 49 gross hp/liter. The 1.8-4 in the 2013 Buick Encore makes 75 net hp/liter. Emissions are also a tiny fraction of 1963 levels. But those old Buicks are still incredible.

For WYR, I almost said all of them. There were reasons to choose any of them…the early 1960s is one of my favorite periods for cars. In the end, I chose the Studebaker Gran Turismo, and the Thunderbird. In some ways, I like the ‘62 styling a little more, but the ‘63 had a bolder look. So I’m torn. Anyway, this is a nice restoration without it looking obvious. For a lower-level Buick, it’s still a very nice car.

Beautiful car. I really think the 63 Buick was a great improvement over the 62 … especially that beautiful dash. Scenario 1) The Olds. Scenario 2) The Thunderbird. I’m trying to think of a story about Buicks from this era, but I can only remember one from childhood. One of my mom’s friends had a 62 LeSabre 4-door sedan. It was black with a white roof. I remember thinking the taillights were the ugliest on any car. Another of our family friends, who drove Pontiacs in the 60s, moved up to Buicks in the 70s and one of our neighbors bought Buicks in the 70s, as did my BIL’s mother. But I don’t remember many Buicks in my neighborhood in the 60s. One of those things that makes me wonder.

That's interesting about the nailhead powered GPU. I worked for a company in the late 80s that had an airstart unit powered by a Rolls-Royce 6 cylinder engine. It was probably 30 years old at the time but we used it to successfully start a Concorde's 4 Olympus turbojets on several occasions when it visited our regional airport. Those were the days!

Came across one just like the one you show in 1980 on the side of the road for sale. Told my dad about it and he went to take a look. He bought it. It was GM executive who had it for sale. 55k milage, excellent paper trail for maintenance ran and drove like a new car. Became my dad's daily driver for a few years. Until one day a power steering hose burst and dumped the fluid under the hood. When the hood was raised to inspect the smell, it went up in flames.

I do like the new Corvettes I think they’re nice I also like the Shelby mustang with the voodoo 5.2 gt350 Don’t hate me, but I really like the styling of the ionic six .. if that was a hybrid, that would be the perfect combination because it’s fully electric it’s kinda eh Don’t get me wrong I like electric cars but I don’t like the fact that they’re trying to force them on everybody. I think you should be able to have the choice to choose what you wanna drive also they’re not 100% honest about how green they really are just leave it at that don’t get me started lol I joke with my wife all the time if I could have it my way I’d have a bunch of 30 cars and 50 cars and I drive them every day I really want a packard

Hi Jay! GM really had it going in the 60's, and Buick was right up there with the others. Their cars were at least fairly attractive all through those years. The example shown is just stunning. Wish, though, that the body color was the color of the roof and the roof white instead. It would then be drop-dead gorgeous! And with that matching interior. . .Made the WYR's hard for me Jay as I have to pick the GT Hawk (of course) and the T-Bird over the Buick. Both cars are a little smaller than the Big B. Very neat car, though!

a relative had a '63 LeSabre with the DynaFlow variable pitch 2 range tranny. Guaranteed to give you 10mpg uphill, downhill, around the hill and on flat land, day and night. At least they were more durable than the similar years of "Slim Jim" automatics in Pontiac and Olds.

yep, the roofline that gives a sporty appearance like a convertible. GM tried everything at least once, bubble tops, flat tops, reverse angle pillared tops, and these mock-vertible tops. Ford came out with something similar in '63 1/2, and Chrysler too with their cantilevered pavilion style of roof.

Many GM cars of this period had the ribs in the roofs. Possibly they thought it looked "sporty", giving a hint of a convertible top? Because of Buick's Dynaflow automatics(non-shifting automatic operating like a CVT would today) they had to have larger than normal engines, especially with higher torques). Whereas a full-size Chevy could get away with a 283 V8 and a Buick had to have a 401 nailhead, rated by torque as 375(2 Bbl. low compression), 410(2 Bbl.) and 445(4 Bbl.). You could manually start the Buick in Low to get a quicker getaway.

That speedometer needle with the yellow pointer is a speed alert. You can set the needle to whatever speed you want, and if you go over that speed, an obnoxious buzzer would sound. Might save you a ticket! Those old nail head Buicks gave a far better performance than they had any right to, and almost bullet-proof. the factories started making "hardtops" because people liked the way real convertibles looked but didn't like all the problems that could happen with a real convertible, and they were more expensive than a non-convertible car, or "soft-top", so the idea was to make the metal top look as close to a real convertible as possible

Three levels of 401s available that year in LeSabres. This one has the standard version, (Wildcat 410) which is high compression (10.25) but with a 2 barrel. It was rated at (a very torquey and explosive) 280 hp. The no-cost option was the regular-gas 9.0 compression version with 265 hp. Then there was the Wildcat's engine with the 4-barrel available at slight extra cost, with 325 hp. Your dealer could put on dual quads (smallish ones) and raise your 401 to 340 hp. I suppose that makes 4 levels, but it was a dealership thing, and usually only found on Wildcats with 4 speeds.

I am indifferent to 1960ties, hate 1880-1909, 1970ties, 1990ties. I am ok with 1980ties. I dig the designs after 2000 even those are appliances. When positioned in the Drive range, the transmission never shifts. It's all engine, from idle to cruising speed, the only changing dynamic that is perceptible to the driver is the RPM of the engine. The pitch of the stator is imperceptible. When positioned in the Low range, the thing will stand on it's toes, launching off the line fast but requiring a manual shift into the Drive range for steady cruising. The launch while in Drive range is leisurely processed, like how a Ford takes off in second gear when the lever is on the "2".

Back when there was a Buick to suit everyone's wishes, and enough power could be had under the hood to pass most cars in style. The 401 nailhead was an awesome but thirsty engine and each car brand had it's own distinctive style which you could spot with a glance. WYR I like Studebakers, even though the styling was dated and the brand at an end. Wish I could have chosen a Buick Wildcat, the the Chrysler 300 will do as it's fast enough. Now that I think, rum,ble has a site mirror, so you can clone your youtube content to rum, ble, I think. I did not copy mine, I nuked it and rebuilt. lul Odessy and Playur are the other sites that seem to have any real staying power. Anyway its not as nightmarish as you think, but it's still time, time is something you probaly don't have enough of as is. LOL So I get not being able to do more, tho if have the time to plan something, try and do a campaign, a grand or so to get start doign stuff on rumble, it be worth 20$ to me lol. But ya everything is time and money and peeps so short on im. Dun mind me I am belly aching.

the worst part on these Buicks is the plastic glove box door. They never held alignment, it seems like the hinge breaks or something. It's a shame as the rest of the dash is particularly nice.

I’m not sure if it was plastic though it felt like brushed aluminum, but I could be wrong. The inside of the glove box was plastic though at least that’s what it felt like

@@What.its.like. I love all Tbirds from 55 thru 72, even the Beak Birds In the late 80s my Dad had a friend that stored his 63 Tbird in Dad's pole barn for awhile. He wanted to sell it and I loved it, but didn't even ask about the price because I didn't think I could afford it. I learned that he sold it for $1400!!!! I have been kicking myself in the ass for the last 35 years over that one!!!
