The nitrocellulose binding used on Gretsch's was rather unstable on the early guitars and has a tendency to disintegrate over time. Keeping the instrument clean and properly stored helps a lot, but wont stop the chemical brake down. The pickguards were always made of Lucite.

No binding rot. They are famous for binding rot. Filtertrons are low out put too but they have magnets twice the size of a PAFs. Instead of a 1/8 magnet its a 1/4 magnet so even though they are low out put they are still loud enough. They also play cleaner than a PAF they don't push the amp as soon. Nice score👍🤙 $940 score. Thats about what you'd pay for a newer electromatic.

I just finished restoring serial number 61945. am I mistaken, or are the chances of me seeing it's neighboring number about zero?
