I owned a 1963 Valiant Signet with the slant 6. Absolutely great car. My Dad and I drove it from Seattle to Phoenix when it had over 100,000 miles on it with no problems. It sure beats the expensive pathetic junk they make today.

I like that you kept the points and condenser set up. I’d love to take a cross country trip in it.

I love that 63 Valiant, Chrysler designed a winner. My dad, was a mechanical engineer said Chrysler had good engineers, when they built the Slant-6 cylinder engine it was dependable, tough, and a long lasting. The Valiant had torsion bar front suspension that was good for handling and with other upgrades made it into a great race car, the Australians raced them.

Cars and trucks with slant 6s would fall apart from rust long before the slant 6 had a problem, good in cold weather too. Had a 72 Dodge Dart 4 door with the slant 6, such a unique sound, and it would go as fast as you would dare drive it, better gas mileage than a Ford straight 6 I had in my old Ford Granada. Really versatile. Had a friend with a big dodge 4x4 she had a slant 6, stick, great truck.

That's a nice car. I agree with keeping the slant six engine those cars didn't really need the extra weight of the LA engine for normal everyday driving. Chrysler built millions of these cars in the 1960s and 1970s and they were reliable daily drivers for many who didn't want or need the larger cars that were common in the days of inexpensive gas.

Very clean finished product: well done and glad that this sort top was given a new lease on life. 2nd Gen A-bodies certainly are special cars and deserve to be preserved: budget workhorses that are reliable and fun to drive. They're also incredibly well built and easy to maintain. Curious: what disc brake conversion set-up was chosen for the build? So often, kits seem to push the front tires outward toward the fender wheel opening and this set-up leaves it looking OEM. Thanks for sharing.

The slant 6 is legendary and durable. My water pump let go on mine years ago. A friend and I were far from home with a case of beer. He said " we'll have to put the beer in it to get home. I said not before we drink it. It got us 75 miles back home. That's right. We drove the p#$$ out of it. Lol

as a teen driver i had one. put it on the floor and push second gear button and it would churp the tires. that engine was bullet proof. i ran it about 5 miles with no oil in it, valves rattling, knocking deep inside. got to store, bought 3 quarts, like nothing ever happened. thats why they dont make that engine or the for 300 6 banger, TOO DEPENDABLE!

I have a 63 Valiant with a stock slant six I just rebuild, the only problem I’m having is that the carburetor or timing it making the idle too high and my radiator needs to be recored as well due to overheating, I also have an oil leak problem with the oil pan and it has all New gaskets, I’m Located in California is their a mechanic you know of to get my engine running smooth? It’s a 2.8L 170 cubic engine

just stumbled across your video . Ya it's amazing how someone watching someone else's video can nit pick things in the video 🙄. Very nice car. what did you or they use to paint the engine , intake and exhaust manifold? they look like they where dipped in clear glass 😎👍. the only thing I didnt like about factory slant 6 exhaust pipe on a slant6 is that it was restrictive . on my slant 6 in my 65 dart 2 door post car the exit port on the manifold is 2 or 2.25 wide and the factory exhaust flange was 1- 7/8 or some thing ? causes the heat to build up in the manifold and burns out the flange gasket over time . I switched to a flange and pipe that matched the exit port on the manifold . much better flow and performance and still looks stock. still a very nice car 😎👍🏁🇺🇸
