This is one of the better promotion films of a early 1960s era NASCAR race, as the drama infused music bed is somewhat muted when compared to other NASCAR race films of that time. There's a film out there of the 1964 Firecracker 400 at Daytona that went way overboard with the music bed in that film production.

1963 Daytona 500 is even better - The car sounds and such are all real! The worst thing about old NASCAR highlights is that all sounds were recorded after the fact, including the slides and crashes

I can't understand how a NASCAR-related organization hasn't yet organized a vintage racing weekend in some oval - Imagine a weekend of old stock cars racing like it's Goodwood, anything from post-WW2 to the CoT or even the Gen6 plus non-NASCAR stock cars too

From what I've seen over the years, not many examples of 1960s to '70s vintage stockers survived to present day. Nearly all the cars, once they were no longer fit for racing, or the model year expired, in NASCAR, were sold-off to racers for second-tiered race competitions; or the cars were cannibalized for parts. Race teams needed cash to keep their operations afloat, which meant selling off the used machinery no longer needed by the team. Keeping vehicles intact for the sake of posterity was not on the minds of race teams; as they were always looking ahead with how to be competitive in the next race. The cars that were sold for second-tiered races were generally chopped and modified to meet the specs of the race series. After multiple race seasons of those cars getting banged up, it was off to the scrap yard.

@@DanArnets1492 I'm puzzled how Ferrari 250s [was it the LM or GTO model being referenced?] were brought into the discussion, as I was covering the aspects on the reasons why there's a scarcity of vintage [American manufactured] NASCAR racers from a half-century ago. Was your response intended for some other KZbin comment contributor? From my familiarity when it comes to vintage sports cars, they've been better cared for than most NASCAR vehicles from the 1960s. Percentage wise, there are probably more Ferrari 250 LMs still in existence in 2023 than the 1964 NASCAR racers.

@@bloqk16 - ALL Ferrari 250s (GTO, LM, SWB, etc) are all extremely rare and extremely valuable, wayyyy more than anything that has raced in NASCAR - There's no way in Hell there too few vehicles to have "NASCAR's Goodwood"

Yes, the few color races from this era show the Petty cars with a more aqua or greenish blue. For years there's been speculation that the Petty cars then WERE more of a "green" blue but Petty refutes this. The "Petty Blue" from 1972 onward did have a fluorescent agent added to keep it from appearing muted when applied alongside the neon red of STP, (Sometimes incorrectly called "STP red").
