These were made during that brief period when Arnold Palmer himself was designing these clubs. What are your favorite blades and what are your favorite irons from the 1960's?

Just picked up a 2-pw for $27 at the local thrift shop, today! They are in beautiful shape and cannot wait to get them on the course.

Beautiful club you have...Maltby says the '64 is the same as the '64...I came across, in my storage, 2 sets of Tru-Matic irons - one made in '65 & one in '66 (with a 3 iron from '67)...will clean up the clubs & try them out... Oh, btw...all Palmer did w/Sears was to allow them to use his name, his company didn't make the clubs, neither did First Flight at any time...in contrast Johnny Revolta not only sold his name but also played w/the items - especially the golf balls, which were marked on the general/retail undercutting the major ball makers.... I enjoy your vids, keep up the good work

I still have my full set of AP aluminum shafts (stiff) minus the 8 iron which I broke. Played a lot of rounds with them. Loved them…..

I have a full set of First Flight Golden Eagles and Golden Arrows from the 60’s. Got them at Goodwill for 20 bucks. I believe AP was working with First Flight in the 60’s

Played with a guy earlier this year who was gaming these. He said they were actually his second set, his original one he had back in highschool got stolen some years ago and he found a replacement set on eBay. I hit his 2-iron a couple times. It felt pure and definitely let me know exactly how I swung.

Nice. You can't talk about vintage retail golf blades without mentioning the Wilson Blue Ridge Sam Snead irons. Made for a number of years in various shapes. I've got a set that belonged to my grandfather. Granted I don't know what year they're from. 3-pw, complete with Strat-a-block driver, 3, and 4 woods. It's the set I learned to play golf with, and I only started playing regularly 2 years ago. Learning on old equipment really teaches you how to swing properly first rather than chase the latest and greatest marketing scheme served on a platter of "longer, straighter, game improvement" hype. Blades all the way. I just picked up a set of Bridgestone stamped TourStage X-Blades from 2005 as my 2nd set of clubs ever and man they are a thing of Japanese forged beauty. The Wilson Blue Ridges though- If you can find some, you got to feature them!

Not a fan of blades but it sure looked good I think old clubs had a style about them that modern clubs just don't have .

There is a set of Dunlop made Arnold Palmer irons here in the UK from around the same era a little beat up with a similar look and virtually no offset going for £65. It's strange but there is also Wilson Arnold Palmer clubs of the era too.

Arnold Palmer told Wilson to shove it. He bought into First Flight, and Arnold Palmer Clubs were part of the First Flight brand.

Old clubs are like old cars, they don't make them like they use to.

I have that set, but unfortunately they have aluminum shafts, not steel like yours. The heads feel so pure going to reshaft them. Great video!!

@@MrJohnr47 For me wilson have always made the best looking irons I used to have a set of Staff fluid feel irons but stopped playing and sold them. After not playing for 30 years I now have a set of Wilson FG49s and a set of Ping eye 2s which as a junior all those years ago were way out of my price range but now cheap as chips.

To each his own. To me, it looks too much like 1960s Wilson clubs, which I'm not a fan of. I prefer Hogan clubs from the later 60s early 70s.

FYI...Palmer played Wilson blades early on, so his early designs had to be influenced by his Wilson years

Pick a favourite 1960s iron set? It would be like picking a favourite child, I can't do it or I'd upset the other babies. But I do like the Slazenger "Gary Player" and the JB Halley "Tournament" sets.
