I learned to drive on my dads 1966 GMC 1/2 ton pick-up, straight 6 cylinder, 3 on the column.

I have my dads old 64 like yours: same color, light blue and rust! Mine is a 6 cyl fleetside, short bed. Parked it about 4/5 years ago in my shop and haven’t cranked it since then. Need to get it running again.

I would have degreased the engine compartment to see if yaou can find any oil, water or fuel leaks and also make working on the engine and accessories cleaner and easier. I have a 66 C10 with a new 350 and turbo 350 trans. Thinking of going to a newer 4 speed automatic for a little better mph in the near future.

I hear ya! It's definitely easier to work on a clean engine, but the thrill of the unknown is part of the fun!

Need oil canister gasket or it will leak big time.

Yes! Swapped out the old canister gasket for a new one during the oil filter replacement. The old one was as hard as a rock.
