On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 8-2-21.
We're looking at a 1965 Dodge Coronet in Silver Paint. The car comes with the 426 CI V8 “Race Hemi” engine.
The car's Owner is Russ Toms. Russ has had this car since 2013. Russ shared this was one Fast Car in 1965, and thought it would be a good idea to own one, and he shares, it’s pretty good on the street too.
ENJOY!

When the hood is lifted that 426 presents itself like few cars I've seen! Pure super stock with an exhaust beat that's all cam and compression. The Real Deal. Thanks Lou!

Hello, Lou......If you remember, I am the HEMI nut from Northern New Jersey.....All I can say is " Now you are talkin'". I would be very happy if one day I could once again own a HEMI.......... Hello, Russ. Thank you for taking such good care of your MAJESTIC 65 A990.....I could breath the exhaust from this car and pass away happy......All kidding aside, tribute or not it is a monster. Super high compression, monster cam and don't forget a cross ram with two holleys on top...When these beasts were tuned right and that light went green, just punch it and hang on while it takes you way down in the 10 second bracket. I think I just died and went to heaven.........Thank you, Men !

When he steps on the gas, it's like hearing Jimi Hendrix playing his Stratocaster through his Marshall amps. It's primal scream therapy!!! There's all kinds of music in this world, and that Hemi plays it's own special brand of Rock and Roll!! Everybody who lived in those days misses them, and kids can only imagine and wonder what it was like. For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, none is possible.

Stunning car!! A local man to the Gatineau Quebec(other side of the river from Ottawa, Ontario Canada) had a real one that he raced and street drove till the mid 80's then got sold to the US. Real reason for the reverse shift pattern is for when racing you are moving the shifter AWAY from neutral and reverse, two gears you DON'T want to shift to when racing.

All the factory deletes and still more luxurious than cars from the Eastern Block. Anyway this is madness, street legal dragstrip Coronet with "salami" tires in the rear. The only thing missing is a parachute 😅 The old Dodge logos above the front lights are unique, but it makes logic...2 Dodge brother thus 2 Dodge logos 😉 The look under the hood is some serious business. Jay Leno himself would drool over it!! And that unholy sound. This must be fun, when Russ rolls up next to a tuner at a red light. "Who did you say owns this street?" The shifting pattern makes perfect sense, when explained why. Everything is focused at being light and fast 😀 Thank you Lou.

Lou, what you have doe is really incredible. I think you have created the best historical record of American cars from the 40’s to the 80’s in existence. I’ve learned so much more than I previously knew by going through your videos. Those 4 decades were much more amazing than I knew and I’ve always loved cars. I believe there was something very special about the American psyche that was reflected in the automobiles they designed and built in that era. The contrast between those beautiful cars and the plain, anonymous cars of today is what strikes me the most. You’ve done a great job Lou.

You have a knack of featuring some of my favorite cars. The 1965 Dodge Coronet is one of my three all-time favorite cars. Hi, Lou! Man, that's one big honkin' engine! This was a pre-Charger charger! I think you were exceeding that 45 mph limit! (Couldn't tell, looks like the speedo doesn't work.) Thanks to you and Russ for this crazy ride and ILL CYA in the next one!

1965 was the last year for the best Coronets. I owned a '66 Coronet of which was a dull and boring car, but dependable in any case. That A990 featured has a beautiful red interior. Before you interrupted him, he was about to continue explaining that his was the only red one, since all others rolled off the line with green ones. That red stands out astonishing, with that silver paint. That car has plenty of charachter, unlike the newer Coronets of which had practically none to speak of. A 150 lb. weight-saving using magnesium for the manifold and aluminum for the heads and waterpump is quite impressive. It's too bad that this practice wasn't widespread, since Volkswagen was casting their Beetle engine casings from magnesium. Possibly the transaxles also. But, I can't be sure of that one

Goodday Lou, What a animal of a Dodge. In my opinion this was the year that put Ma Mopar at the for front of drag racing. Only year that aluminium heads were available on a Hemi. Mopar should of offered the aluminum head as a option on all Hemi Engine just to take weight off the front. Awesome Coronet I just envy your enthusiasm for bringing us these awesome video. Was it running on Aviation Fuel, love the smell of AV Gas reminds me of sunflower seeds smell. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

Hi Louis, this is Russ, owner of the car. So glad you enjoyed the video. I run premium pump gas from Costco and add a bottle of octane boost which raises the octane about 6 points. I've owned the car about 6 years...it lives a life of cruise nights and car shows so all out performance is not required. The previous owner raced the car in sanctioned events and I believe he ran aviation fuel . Back in 1965 these cars consistently ran mid to high 10's at the 1/4 mile tracks. Lou has 3 more of my cars on his site - two 1963 Pontiacs one black and one white plus a 1963 white Corvette Split Window coupe. Hope you have a chance to view them also. Thanks for your kind comments. Russ

@@russelltoms2287 Goodday Russ, This is a real treat to be able to communicate directly with an owner let alone the owner of 2 beautiful Pontiac, yes I do remember them a black & a white one, 1963 split window Corvette & the pinnacle of Mopar a 1965 Coronet Factory Build with a 426 Race Hemi. I also enjoy seeing suburbia America in the background & the scenery together with those beautiful double story big barn house are just amazing. Look aftet your Coronet, I would love to have the opportunity to meet you in person & have the opportunity to view all of your beautiful cars. I have listened to the Coronet on my ear pods & the sound is pure magic. Like Lou would say, " You can put the baby to sleep with that ". Russ the pleasure is all mine. Thank you for contacting me. @@louiskats5116 Hi Louis, thanks for your message. The previous owner of my '63 Blk Pontiac Catalina has been a long time friend . I was 18 and he was 16 when we first met at his cousins gas station located on the northwest side of Chicago where we both grew up. Four years ago he listed a 1969 Chevy Nova for sale on ebay and sold it to a chap that lives in Milbourn. He shipped it to San Francisco where it was loaded into a container and shipped to Milbourn. As I recall some modifications to the car had to be made. Since you drive on the opposite side of the road the headlights had to be switched out to correct the beams direction. The buyers name and address is below. Should you ever visit Chicago knock me up and you can check out these cars from inside. My direct email address is toms43@sbcglobal.net.
