This is part two of my restoration journey. I remove the shifter housing and fix it by installing new bushings as well as welding in a new shift lever pin. I thine paint it up to look like new. I also repaint the intake manifold and valve covers. I install a new carburetor and get the engine running!

Great progress on your ride!! My 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback has over 689,000 miles on it and I had to buy a new shifter assembly. The little tab that you made was terrific. The local shop I use wouldn’t weld my old one saying they didn’t want to be responsible for any future problems. I got my money’s worth after all those miles. Your extensive skill set is incredible and allows you to do amazing work by yourself. Diabetes has taken the sensitivity away from my hands and made future work very difficult. The shifter has a place of honor on my garage wall along with my steering wheel which disintegrated at 525,000 miles. They don’t make them like they used to!! Ha!! Enjoyed the progress… keep it up and thanks for sharing your story!

689K miles is really impressive! I'm trying to do as much work myself while I'm able to! Thank you so much for following along, this is definitely a rewarding experience for me, can't wait to get it back on the road!

Man Ive been wanting a 65 Mustang since I got one from Hot Wheels. I was 4 when it came out. I got a 95 when it was new, but nothing like the 65. Who knows, I might be able to get one yet. You did a great job with it. Thanks for the video

Hey there, that is the most comprehensive "Rattle can" rebuilds, I've ever seen !!!! Seriously, I love that you had the original Ford carb rebuilt. It was great hearing it fire up..!!! It looks a ton better already... I'll be watching your progress 😀.... Keep at it brother....

Thanks! Rattle cans for the win! Unfortunately I think I have a vacuum leak and am going to have to pull the intake manifold off to reseal it. So there may be more rattle cans in its future haha. Thanks for the support!

Great vid! Thanks for covering the shifter issues. I have the opposite problem with mine. It is very difficult to shift from gear to gear. Now I know what to expect when I get to that point in my repairs.

Maybe your shifter housing is rusted or needs to be cleaned and re-greased? Either way it's not too hard to take the housing out to see what's going on with it! Good luck with the repairs!

Hey, engine lookin' and soundin' great. You did a nice job. I have crummy chrome valve covers on my 289 but the original valve covers are in the trunk and I will be reinstalling them soon. I liked the shifter part, great info. I wondered how that worked. Great job, thanks for the vids.

You need a table grinder with a wire wheel and a small air compressor. Life changes after that. lol 😅 great content

That's awesome! I'm having so much fun with it. Also trying to not get overwhelmed or discouraged. We have to just keep making a little progress every week and they'll be on the road again. I'm definitely learning a lot through the process!

Probably too late, but it would be good if you add some clear coat to the valve covers. When I did mine the first time, they got really dirty from grease and such which kind of stained them. I redid them with clear coat and everything just wipes off.

Yeah unfortunately it's too late now. When I eventually re-paint them, I'll add a clear coat! Thanks!

FYI, a 1965 289 should be black with gold rocker covers and air cleaner.

Very cool vids to follow, I guess you are a car enthusiast , not a mechanic, how do you know what to do, you are learning just watching tutorials and vids? Otherwise keep it up , that's nice. Greetings from France ;)

Exactly! Figured this would be the best way to learn! Yes, I've watched tutorial videos, which help a ton. I also get a lot of helpful information from people on forums as well as repair manuals. Thanks for following along!
