The first GT was close to what my 67 GTA looked like. Best first car ever.

I absolutely loved these cars when they came out. My neighbor had a brand new 67 GT 390 4spd. Blue with white interior, buckets, console, and dash tach. At 12yrs old I was in love with that car, and got a ride in it whenever possible. The stance is beautiful, and those 390 badges meant this was no pushover. What a gorgeous car.

Nice review! As a 7th grader in Junior High School, the local Ford dealers gave out toy models, I have one that is 56 years old on my bookshelf. It was the Comet version in 1967.

Ford was always 2 years ahead of Ma Mopar in body styling. Love all these Muscle Cars recently saw a GTA here in Australia. You look at 1968 Plymouth & Dodge Hardtop & resemble the Ford Hardtop from 1966 to 1967. Great Channel just subscribed Cheers Louis Kats from Melbourne, Australia 👍🇦🇺🇺🇸❤

Hi Char, good video! I am 63 years old, and I have been an ASE Master Technician most of my life. In 1966 Ford came out with a brand new 100% full mid-size car i.e. Ford Fairlane/Mercury Comet. All new longer wheelbase, wider front and rear track, larger unit built body shell, (unitized body construction) "no body on frame," featuring larger interior, larger trunk and a larger engine compartment for larger engine options. Before 1966 the Ford Fairlane/Mercury Comet where actually a bit smaller "senior compact" based on the compact 1960 Ford Falcon, with a longer wheel base and a bit more interior room. This was in regards to what GM did with their all new 100% full mid-size car in 1964. I am talking about the all new GM "A" body for 1964, i.e. Chevrolet Chevelle/Malibu/Malibu Super Sport, Pontiac Tempest/LeMans/GTO, Oldsmobile F-85/Cutlass/442, and Buick Special/Skylark/Gran Sport. The all new GM "mid-size" starting in 1964 (was full perimeter body on frame) not unitized body construction, was selling like hell, and Ford had to do something. Before 1964, the Pontiac Tempest/LeMans, Oldsmobile F-85/Cutlass and Buick Special/Skylark, where a bit smaller "senior compact" (unitized body construction) based on the compact 1960 Chevrolet Corvair with a longer wheel base and a bit more interior room. The Chevrolet Chevy ii/Nova "GM X body" was NOT based on the cars that I listed above. By the was "XL" stood for "Xtra Lively." By the way, "GT" stands for Grand Tourer/Gran Tourer/Grand Turismo or Gran Turismo. GTO, the "O" stands for Omolgato and/or Homologated. One nick name for GTO is "gas tires and oil" among a bunch of other tings. On the Mustang/Fairlane GTA, the "A" stands for a "shift command" automatic floor shifter. Ford was trying attract buyers who did not want to drive a 4 speed, as did with the Hurst Duel Gate automatic shifter or "his and her automatic floor shifter" found as an option on the 1967 and up GTOs and some other GM cars. Chrysler did the same thing with their floor mounted "Slap Stick" option, much the same as the Hurst Duel Gate shifter. These shifters can be obtained aftermarket by Hurst and B&M, (same company now) One of the photos that you displayed shows a tiger tail sticking out of the grill of a Fairlane GT, with a caption "How to Cook a Tiger" that was Ford taking a shot at the all ready hot selling Pontiac GTO. The Fairlane station wagon shows Fords new two way tailgate that was a "Ford First" in 1966. Please reply. Dave...

Dave, your an encyclopedia of info... Your in depth knowledge is appreciated by me... Maybe I could make some videos in the future pointing out some of the details you are hitting on. I'm just sticking to what the brochures say for now. I love these old brochures, I would go to Carlisle and just read through the brochures for hours and hours. I really liked the taunt from Ford to Pontiac on "How to Cook a Tiger" never saw that before. I was excited to add this to the video. Thanks so much for your replies, very informative.

@@Char_Jens Thank you Char! I reside in the state of Maryland and I am two hours from Carlisle Fairgrounds. I have been to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, about 500 times since 1976, originally with my late father, (after that, my x-wife) he is the one who got me into vintage cars back when I was a kid. Can we communicate! I have a Google account and a Facebook account. I have a mobile phone, but I do not have internet on my phone, I do not need it, I am 4' away from a computer, 24/7. Dave...

Those 1966 and '67 Fairlane GT and GTA were beautiful cars! And equipped with the standard 390 FE they ran pretty well. But we knew where a 390 can fit, so can a 427 FE, and then you had something really special! They're overlooked by many, but not by this enthusiast!!!

@@BuzzLOLOL IMO the Fairlane looks way better than the 65 GTO/Tempest! The GTO design is too boxy! The Fairlane's lines are smoother! The 66-67 GTO design was much improved!!

@@BuzzLOLOL First of all, the Fairlane v GTO? There is NO comparison, the GTO is a legend! It is credited with starting the whole musclecar era! Secondly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You see the 65 GTO as a beauty. I don't! I see the 66-67 GTO's as way more beautiful than the 65! They 're ALL great cars, I would love to have one of each and I think you would too!.

@@wedge4hire - Back in the day, I daily drove a '65 GTO convertible tripower 4 speed... sold it as just another used car... but should have kept it... had an '86 Monte Carlo LS that I was restoring to keep... but a mentally ill kid deliberately ran a Chrysler New Yorker into the back of it while it was parked, shortening the back of it about 3 feet and pushing it into the back step bumper of my truck also destroying every thing on the front of it... so I gave up on it...

My first car was a ‘67 Fairlane GTA, someone replaced the 390 HP with a hot cammed 428 SCJ. No seatbelts, no AC, no drink holders or airbags 😂 Pretty worn out by the time I bought it but still ran really good. Never had a problem pulling away from any stock small block Camaro or Mustang, even held up against the new at the time Mustang F body GTs. It was like driving the Batmobile because it was the only Fairlane on the road in my area.

I really wish they had put the 410 4 V with just a little better exhaust manifolds. They had the parts on the shelf. The C6AER heads and the aluminum PI intake. Torque monsters. And even the 428 T-bird with the same heads only with LR 2.09/1.63 valves and the aluminum 4 and 2x4 intakes with Holleys. 66-67 GT and GTA could have been so much better. Even the GT/CJ cam. They would have been better on the street. I never understood it. A pair of 2.25 duals to the rear with resonators and muffler delete. They were THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CARS IN 66 and 67. They could have slapped around any 383 Mopar.

My grandpa got 1 in '67 brand new. It had a 289 with the cruise o matic. I was a kid, but, I believed it was fast in P.R. most cars there were 4&6 cylinders. Ofcourse, V8s also existed but, he almost always was the 1st off on the green light. It didn't have power steering nor brakes, & in that climate no A/C. So, the faster U went the cooler it got inside. My dad when on vacation, he didn't drive it, that year my dad had a '66 Buick Riviera GS. So.... anyway, I just read about the 427 engine. I'm certain NO 1 took theirs out on the highway!!! Lol
