One of the best videos I’ve ever seen on automobiles. I love you using period articles and brochures. I also like comparing the costs vs current costs. Absolutely excellent presentation.

Always had a liking for the 56 Imperial 4 door Southampton. The rear quaterlite glass scissors operation, one year only. 229 Inches over all length, oh yeah she's big. Record Player, yeah! Though the gas heater was questionable particularly in later years. Claims, without regular and expertise maintenance the unit would go pop. Sorry I down play, it would actually explode, engulfing the entire car in a ferocious fire. But a better record than Pinto, not to mention all the dud transmissions of today, that can engulf and destroy your financial wellbeing. Heh heh . Luvd the vid keep up the great work

Hi Char, thank you for the info in regards to the first fully transistorized car radio! By the way, alternators (in place of generators) were first introduced as standard equipment on a production car by the Chrysler Corporation on the Valiant in 1960, several years ahead of Ford and General Motors. Alternators are smaller, run cooler, rob less horsepower, more efficient and more reliable than a standard direct current "DC" generator. You mentioned that Chrysler stopped offering disc brakes on the Imperial at that time, you are correct. Chrysler was one of the first to offer disc brakes (only on Imperial) but in the mean time, the configuration was over engineered, high maintenance and very expensive to produce. They where nothing like the configuration of the modern disc brakes of today. Instead of the disc with caliper squeezing on the brake rotor, this system used twin expanding discs that rubbed against the inner surface of a cast-iron brake drum, which doubled as the brake housing. Please reply. Dave...

Thanks Dave, Interesting how the first disc brakes operated.

Missing from this video is the black and white folder for the two Crown Imperial models. It is very similar in its format to the small black and white folder featured in this video. It is very rare, and, in my opinion, a very poor and cheap advertisement for Crown Imperial cars when compared to the expensive catalogues for the Cadillac Series 75. Cadillac knew how to advertise; Imperial dropped the ball.

....the 55-56 models are my favorite Imperials, followed closely by the 64-66 models....all Imperials, at least up to about 1970 were very well built cars.....too bad Virgil Exner was a Dr. Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde designer with some beautiful cars, and some that morphed into the hideous and bizarre category.....the 59 Imperial's front end look is the perfect example.....

I always crack up at "democratic" Americans falling for authoritarian / royalist fantasy names for CARS . . . like "Imperial." Always easy to appeal to people's inner "lah-dee-dah" fantasies of grandeur. HA HA. (Love your videos, BTW).

Virgil Erpp, oops! Extner. Can't watch Video, I personally know Chrysler. However, without watching, I know that the Imperial brand begins in 1955 to 1971. WERE NOT CHRYSLER! Own brand! Wayyyyyy different!
