I've always been a Pontiac guy, and this car just confirms my feelings, I had a 67 Chevy II, and the little differences make this car much nicer. Yesterday it was the Park Lane today the Acadian, your videos always throw a wrench in my to-do list. I need to walk away from the computer or I won't get anything done. Thanks again.

Beautiful car. I live in Canada and see one come up for sale now and again but nothing as nice as this car. They sell for around $20,000 even in bad shape. I was actually just looking at an invader and they wanted $15,000 for just a roller. Another unique car to look out for is the Ford Frontenac, looks just like a Falcon until you really study it.

Hi Lou, if you watch at 7:24 in the video, on the left is an open garage. In that garage there appears to be a 1965 Acadian Beaumont, basically a Chevelle with a Pontiac Tempest/GTO dash that was also sold exclusively in Canada!

With the scarcity of old Canadian cars like this one along with Meteors and Frontenacs that the biggest hurdle in restoring a car like this to stock I'm guessing would be locating original exterior and interior trim parts. I imagine the engine parts wouldn't be as hard.

You would think that they'd offer a THD 400 as an option for that high-end 350 hp 327, instead of a Powerglide, even though it was available to all the other GM divisions. I used to live not that far from Windsor, Ontario. It never dawned on me to go over there and shop for cars. The mid-50's Mercurys were decked out way more fancy than the ones sold to us

he said there are 6 or 8 left which is not true. There are 100's of these in garages across Canada. Also door panels look like nova panels. Acadian Beaumonts were also copies of chevelles from 64-72 with their own unique grilles, rear lights and interiors.

@r.crompton2286 Жыл бұрын
The Acadian was a separate, stand-alone division of GM Canada. Since it was not a Pontiac, there was no Pontiac badging. Almost all of the Acadians were sold at Pontiac/Buick dealerships across Canada under a special sales arrangement.
@barrycuda3769 Жыл бұрын
@@r.crompton2286 thanks for that 'here in New Zealand I think all the American cars we got in that era were from Canada '(except Falcons and Valiants' which were built in Australia ) an example being the Pontiac Laurentian.
@blackberrythornsАй бұрын
@@barrycuda3769 yup, ford canada began in 1904 as a business arrangement. gm began as a holding company between the largest coach maker in canada and the largest in the states. all the car manufacturers had canadian subsidiaries due to tariffs, cars made in canada were exempt and it opened up the commonwealth market.

Yes it was - primarily in the 60's. Compact Chevy clones sold at Pontiac Dealers at near Chevy prices with "Francaphone" names that would also appeal to the large population of French Canadians as well.

Those were very utilitarian economy cars when the came out in 1962. They were uni-body cars and had no full frame (and were a little bit narrower) so they were noticeably lighter. In '62 & '63 you could only order a four or a six cylinder motor. It wasn't until '64 & '65 that you could order up a 283 or a 327 V8 with your four speed. Public demand necessitated that they please us, but the poor little cars were never engineered for such a heavy motor sitting up front. Sure they put in heavier coils and all the but the height would begin to sag almost right away and the ball joints would wear out fast. That's why you see this guy has gone and changed it all to a Mustang II front end or something more modern. The original steering was six and a half turns from lock to lock and it just takes too long to bring the steering back when you're in a slide. You want something that's more like three turns from left to right and then you won't wind up spinning out all the time. Then you had to address the rest. Sub frame connectors, a roll cage and bucket seats perhaps, wheel tubs in the trunk, and a whole redesign of the rear end, probably gas tank, and suspension system back there. He like most has gone with the popular Ford nine inch rear end. The original rear end with the mono leafs would only allow you to fit (no larger than) a G60 tire inside the wheel wells.Those cars make wonderful light hot rods where 400 horsepower is actually quite a bit in a car designed for a four cylinder sewing machine motor. They trouble is though, you need to re-engineer the whole bloody thing before you're finished. Even the original instrument clusters were found to be wanting, so you can see how this fine gentleman has done a wonderful job completely redesigning his own dashboard, with totaly new professional gauges. Looks way better than what it came with. Cheers, Lou!
