Interestingly, there was an “economy” GTO available in 1967. It was the 400 V8 with a 2 barrel carb rated at 255 horsepower, and it only came with an auto transmission. They only produced around 3000 total.
@originalpunkSxE

My dad has one of those. Bought it in 1973 for around $300. Has every option available (power windows, rear window defrost, a/c). Sadly, he sold the block to put in something hotter and lost track of it. Has a weird letter code so you can't just pull one from a Catalina. Dad still has the car though.

Was'nt the economy GTO called a LeMans?
@originalpunkSxE
@originalpunkSxE 2 жыл бұрын
@@hanc37 The mid-size lineup for Pontiac in 1967 was Tempest (base), LeMans (mid-range), and GTO. The biggest engines offered in Tempest and LeMans was a 326 cid V8. GTOs only had 400s. So, yes, LeMans' were economy versions of GTOs. The 2bbl 400 option in the GTO was a 1-year-only option that not many people ordered.

Honestly, the Chevy II should be 3-4 tenths or more quicker, maybe a 1/2 second. When they were new, the Chevy II was so fast it was in A/S and raced against Hemi Belvederes. The 1966 world championship was between a 1966 Chevy II and a 1966 Hemi Belvedere. The Chevy was Grumpy Jenkins, and the Hemi was his friend, Jere Stahl. It was decided by a red light start by Jenkins at the final race of the year.

Never bet against the big block killer! It's a shame that Chevrolet only ran that engine for one year.

Honestly, I've never seen a fast Pontiac. This is coming from a current 1970 Pontiac Lemans and former 1969 Chevy Camaro owner. For some reason they're just slow.

In my book the Chevy won all 3, first one to cross the finish line wins, the quicker reaction time is a bunch of bullshit that some knuckleheaded idiot came up with to give losers an advantage. That rule needs to be eliminated and go back to "first one to cross the finish line wins, no excuses, PERIOD!!!!!!🤧

the first one to cross is the winner in these videos. reaction time isn’t included in ET….and never has been.
