The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 until 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was amongst the better selling American made automobiles in the United States.[4][5]For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-size model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8-powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.Redesigned in 1965, the Impala set an all-time industry annual sales record of more than 1 million units in the United States. All new full-size Chevrolets eschewed the "X" frame for a full-width perimeter frame, a new body that featured curved, frameless side glass (for pillarless models), sharper angled windshield with newly reshaped vent windows, and redesigned full-coil suspension.1966 Impala SS ConvertibleIn 1965, Chevrolet introduced a new luxury package for the Impala four-door hardtop, called "Caprice" and coded as RPO Z18. Caprices received tufted upholstery, wood grained accents on the dashboard and specialty pulls on the insides of the doors. This "halo" model also featured the "spinner" wheel covers from the Impala SS, with the "SS" logo centers replaced by a Chevrolet "bowtie" emblem. The Super Sport's blackout rear trim strip below the triple taillights was also used, with the "Impala SS" emblem replaced by a large "Caprice by Chevrolet" badge. The Impala block lettering on each front fender was replaced with "Caprice" script. The Caprice package was reintroduced as the Chevrolet Caprice Custom in 1966, taking the top position in the full-size Chevrolet lineup.Engine choices included the inline six-cylinder as well as the small-block and big-block V8s. A new three-range Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was optional for 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8. The old 409 cu in (6.7 L) "W" engine was discontinued early in the 1965 model year, so early-production 1965s got the 409, as well as 1/10 of 1% had the 396 CID big-block. Other later-built cars had the 396 cu in (6.5 L) as the big-block option. Two-speed Powerglide, as well as 3 and 4-speed manual transmissions were available. As with previous years, Impalas featured more chrome trim inside and out, with pleated tufted upholstery and door panels. The Impala would be the #2-selling convertible in the US in 1966, with 38,000 sold; it was beaten by the Mustang by almost 2:1.[22] 1966 saw a pair of enlarged big-block V8s featuring 427 cu in (7.0 L). The RPO L36 was rated at 385 hp (287 kW), the L72 at 425 hp (317 kW). The L72 was only available with a manual transmission.The 1967 model was redesigned with enhanced Coke bottle styling that featured Corvette-inspired front and rear fender bulges. The curves were the most pronounced with the 1967-1968 models. In keeping with federal regulations, safety features were built into Impalas during the 1967 and 1968 model years, including a fully collapsible energy-absorbing steering column, side marker lights, and shoulder belts for closed models. The L72 engine was not available in 1967, but a L36 Turbo-Jet V8 was optional.Modified stock car racing, also known as modified racing and modified, is a type of auto racing that involves purpose-built cars simultaneously racing against each other on oval tracks. First established in the United States after World War II, this type of racing was early-on characterized by its participants' modification of passenger cars in pursuit of higher speeds, hence the name.There are many sanctioning bodies for modifieds including NASCARMad Max is a 1979 Australian dystopian action thriller film directed by George Miller, produced by Byron Kennedy, and starring Mel Gibson as "Mad" Max Rockatansky, Joanne Samuel, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Steve Bisley, Tim Burns, and Roger Ward. James McCausland and Miller wrote the screenplay from a story by Miller and Kennedy. Set in a future Australia, the film presents a saga of societal collapse, murder, and revenge in which an unhinged policeman becomes embroiled in a violent feud with a savage motorcycle gang.

Can't Thank you enough for not being 1 of those builders who go on a 20min tantrum about flash and fit and they never seem to realize that almost all of the flash is simple to remove and the biggest part is the kits are $15 to $25 so for that little money and the age of some of the molds I will deal with flash and fit problems because #1 we are model builders. Thank you again for the amazing builds and tips. Keep yourself, family, and friends safe and healthy and remember it's fun.

@@hpiguy and believe me we all appreciate your reviews, builds, build issues, painting and weathering tips. I always painted my models with airbrush and hated the clean up and most of the paints are pretty pricey, but watching you paint with rattle cans and seeing how awesome your paint jobs come out I now use rattle can spray paints and very rarely use my airbrush and I'm very happy about that. Thank you again and please keep the videos going. It doesn't matter what your reviewing or building I'm always tuned in.

agreed! this hobby is supposed to be fun, relaxing and all about creativity! Don't let the rivet counters suck your fun out of it, or the pro modelers whine about injection marks, sink holes, blemishes, flash, soft panel lines. It's a model, not a military inspection! :) Build for you, not anyone else- put in the time and detail you want, not what someone else wants or expects. I kind of cherish the thrill of older molds because they WILL have issues and that adds to the fun. i see it as an extra challenge to me to overcome those shortcomings

I have been building AMT stockcar models since the late '60's and they have always had the best selection, details and options of all. I grew up in Maryland and made stockcar models for my favorite drivers at Dorsey Speedway in Dorsey Md, and gave them to the drivers, what a great memory.

I haven’t dented any cars yet but bought the leaf stamps for the abandoned convetable. Thank you again, the more people you bring to this hobby the more the manufacturers bring out new (and old ) kits. Jeff

Chris, great build but one problem. Your air filter is backwards. It goes against the firewall. We use to cut a hole in the firewall so our engine could draw air from the cowling below the windshield. Less mud from the guy in front of you went into it. The way yours is it will fill with mud quickly. My Dad's impala was # B-2. B-1 was a 58 Ford. Thanks

I thought you painted the bellhousing red to indicate it was a blow proof bellhousing. Most racing either wants a safety blanket of some sort or a blow proof bellhousing. Clutches come loose and "blow up" during racing sometimes. They have been known to injure the driver.

Simply phenomenal build, Chris. Inspirational, too; I had previously built the last incarnation of this kit, but purchased another kit, to get the windscreen and the decals of this release. I want to build an old used-up race car like one would find stuck back in the Virginia woods. One big question: where do I buy "rust" spray paint?? I can't find ANYTHING to turn my chrome pieces into the beautiful rusty chrome of your '66. PLEASE help !

AMT took so many of their celebrated stock/3n1 kits and destroyed them to make this series. Biggest shame in styrene history, at least to us old guys. But that is a cool build.

Hi! Love the videos and have been watching the backlog. With all the social distancing and working from home, I have rekindled the itch to start modeling again, thanks in part to your videos! Quick question - besides the helping hands fixture, can you provide a link to where a fellow may obtain the holding fixtures you use for painting (for example - painting the body shell, and the round fixture with the clamps on the periphery of the fixture). Thanks again for your reviews! I already bought the spray booth you reviewed a few years back!

Love your videos man! One question I have for you is why don't you use an airbrush? Surely in the long run an airbrush would be much cheaper than the spray cans. Great build by the way!
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 4 жыл бұрын
I do if needed. I have nothing against airbrushes and own a nice set up of them. One $4 spray can lasts dozens of car models. Some I've had for a couple years. It's very economical.

@@soulsurvivor1001 I use spray cams quite a bit in my builds. Ii for one recommend the Rustoleum X2 brand, it's paint and primer in one. They're pretty inexpensive. I have a couple metallic finishes, flat blacks, flat white, and then whatever base color Im after for the model. I love the coverage they provide,they dry super quick, and come in a multitude of colors!

Chris you out did yourself on this one, it looks great. I will be starting my Chevy Luv kit in a couple of days, and I picked up the Brat kit too. I could never find one of these trucks when I went car shopping, always ended up with a S-10. I guess I'll have them now. Thanks again.

Do you have a tutorial on how you grooved the tires? I am about to build this same kit and I am going to build it to replicate a car that an old family friend/farmer used to race locally (mid-Michigan) back in the 70s and early 80s. The Flying Farmers were a father/son team from Ovid Michigan. They raced an old Chevy Impala, and an open-wheel modified. Both cars were robin-egg blue and white. Any suggestions for a open wheel modified kit? I have the Ridge Runner Modified from MPC, but that isnt quite what I am looking for. Thanks!

Nothing to show really, just take your tool and add grooves. Uber simple. Thanks!

Hi guy, I've got a question for ya. You use the Tamiya black wash quite a bit,do you have to clear coat over oil based paints before you use it? I never used it before,and I got some the other day to try. I painted some fuel tanks model masters aluminum,and a day later,used some of it on the steps,and it pretty much dissolved the aluminum paint. Had to redo the steps. Has this ever happened to you? I wiped one wet,and waited for another to dry,and it never really did. The aluminum paint was like I'd used a stripper on it.

I was hoping one could build this stock. Does any model manufacturer make a 1:25th-scale kit of the Chevrolet Impala round 1966-1969 that one could build stock?
